yes NIS2008 was fully disabled during installation,In fact i was not aware of
these facts i come to know after installing sp3
However i followed this methode which later i came to know was wrong.
1-format HD then installed xp sp2
2-installed NIS2008 did not run liveupdate(it was mistake here)
3-downloaded xpsp3 and installed
4 then installed rest of programms
5- updated NIS2008
after installing sp3 and a bit of searching on net i came to know about
these issues,( conflict of Norton with sp3) and their tools,
since my computer was not showing blank device manager so i didnot cared
,however Norton log was showing it had prevented the attemt to modify its
registry with keys like $%&'()*+ ,I checked those keys but could not find
such keys
i also searched as per ms Kb953781 but could not find traces of such keys or
values.
an unexpected thing happened in mornig today when i decided to search for
such keys in my computer not just in HKLM\SYSTEM ifound several such keys
some were like HKLM\SW\CLASS\INSTALLER\COMPONENTS\C794F6B256862 ....=
STARNGE CHARACTERS
THERE WERE MANY KEYS LIKE THERE NOT IN HKLM\SYSTEM but in CLSID and in
Userdata ,the real catch is when i finished searching through registry and
rebooted my computer i could not boot, i was careful enough not to delete or
modify any keys
My attempts to start computer using recovery console also failed as i could
not logged on system because of pwd authentication was failing, registry were
so corrupted.
first it gave a message ntoskrnl.exe not found i copied it back
then on second attempt it gave a message ntfs.sys not found which clearly
means nothing.
As every one knows Nis installs itself as rootkit in drivers
folder.something was preventing startup some how with the help of BartPE copy
of registry were restored from windows\repair folder and system was rebooted
sucessfully
however when i tried to restore copies of registries from systemsnapshot
folder my computer could be started for hrs it continued on splash screen
forever
changed to old method again and reached desktop but could not use the system
restore feature
now i am writing to you, you will be thinking we satrted with a problem of
IE7 and landed here,
anyway i had decided that it will be in my intrest to download the tools
froms symantec site and run it ,and the see the result
I will post after running of that tool

Your issues are many and complicated, way too complicated for us to attempt
to resolve here. As such, I'd recommend that you open a free WinXP SP3
support incident...
Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
