Unable to Drag-n-Copy from IE7 to Word in Vista but no problem in

I have two computers; one with Windows XP SP2 and the other with Vista Home
Premium.
In XP I often copy highlighted text from IE7 page just by dragging it onto
another one in the Task Bar (Word or Search field in the new browser window),
which opens as soon as the mouse cursor hovers over it. I can't reproduce the
same procedure in Vista. When I try, that second window's rectangle in the
Task Bar changes only to orange color but it never opens to let me finish
copying like in XP. So, I'm forced there to use the "usual" Copy and Paste
technique.

I also asked for help with it in PCWorld forum
(http://forums.pcworld.com/thread/34672?tstart=0) and two posters reproduced
the Drag-n-Copy task successfuly on their systems using IE7 and Word (with
Vista UAC turned ON and IE7 "Protected mode" Enabled). The only thing new was
that the "Interenet Explorer Security" warning window poped up asking them
for permission to continue: "Do you want to allow web content to be copied to
this program?" Coping to WordPad they did not get any warnings. I still can't
accomplish that task nor am I getting any warnings on my system.

Where can I check and tweak any related settings that would allow me to get
things done as they supossed to without undermining system's security? Thanks
for any advice.

Somehow the end of the question got messed up.
It should be:
Unable to Drag-n-Copy from IE7 to Word in Vista but no problem in XP
PA Bear [MS MVP] - 17 Jul 2008 19:43 GMT
Subject is too long.

Tip: Use shorter, more concise subjects; e.g., "Drag/Drop behavior in Vista
vs WinXP" or "Drag/Copy behavior in Vista vs WinXP")

Your previous thread about this (in which some posts were crossposted to
microsoft.public.windows.vista.security):

Tip: Begin yet another new thread in microsoft.public.windows.vista.security
about this, since crossposting your original thread didn't gain any traction
there.  Crosspost that post to IE Security, if desired.

Could you help me with crossposting, please? I don't know how to do it and I
don't want to create too many separate threads on the same subject in one
place, if possible. I'm actually curious about that procedure now, too. While
doing it, is it possible for you or me to edit/shorten the subject as you
suggested? I don't know how that second "in" got in place of "XP"; I could
swear I had typed "XP" at the end of the subject line...

Don't worry about too many threads.

1. Open another browser window or tab to
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=micro
soft.public.windows.vista.general

(I changed my mind)

2. Begin a New Post.

3. Give your post this title/subject (w/out the quotes): "Drag/Copy behavior
in Vista vs WinXP"

4. State your full Vista version (e.g., Vista SP1 Home Premium) and your
full Office version (e.g., Office 2003 SP3).

5. Briefly but clearly restate your case and question(s).  If you want, you
can say that an MVP had been assisting you in a thread in another newsgroup
but recommended that you begin a new thread in Vista General.  You can
copy/paste the following link into your post for reference, too:

frm/thread/fcf22162c2ef04d7

PS: "drag-n-copy" and "drag-n-drop" may be confusing to others.  Please use
"drag & paste" or "copy/paste" (and similar) instead.

I got the final answer from Microsoft Support via e-mail. Please, check for
details by following the link in my initial post to PCWorld forum.

<QP>
During my recent absence here I have been exchanging e-mails with Microsoft
Support rep. She was very nice and courteous but I had to clarify things
after her first response and ask for reproduction of the task on her end
(like with you). I was hoping she would do it on her own or check this
thread first before sending me a generic looking list of troubleshooting
steps to go through, as if I had problems with the "common" Copy/Paste text
from IE7 to Word or performance of IE7 itself.

Anyway, while playing with her first suggested step (Internet
Options/Advanced/Reset Internet Explorer Settings/Reset button), I
accidentally discovered that I could Drag/Copy in Vista (UAC On and IE7 in
Protected mode). Yet, I can only accomplish that by dragging the text onto
the empty space of the Taskbar first and then onto the Word's rectangle.
During that maneuver both windows get minimized as soon as I drag the text
onto the Taskbar. Word opens full when I keep dragging over its rectangle
before dropping the text in there. I totally agree with rgreen4 that this is
way too much work, if you have many windows tiled on the wide screen and are
forced then to maximize them back one by one.

I reproduced the same scenario in XP but by the choice and not the
(discovered in Vista) necessity. In XP I can have widows tiled and Drag/Copy
among them as much as I want without interfering with their layout. If they
are not tiled, I simply drag the text directly onto Word's rectangle in the
Taskbar. Vista allows for that only if I turn off IE7 Protected mode.

At the end of my correspondence with Microsoft rep I was informed that this
limitation was by "design". I can't argue with the bad design. So, I thanked
the girl for the assistance and asked her for one more favor - to forward my
concerns/feedback to the software development department. Maybe the next
version of Windows or IE will have that feature fixed for me. I can only
hope for a "Change, we can believe in" or I'll just "inflate the tires to
help solving the (...) problems".
