I downloaded IE7 beta yesterday and I've noticed that any Internet links in
emails will not open in IE7.  I have to copy/paste the link to my browser
window.

I use OUTLOOK and have never had a problem before.
Please advise solution.

You weren't using IE7 before. <wink>

[Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs >] Set Program Access and Defaults >
Browser: IE *must* be chosen here if you're running IE7 Beta 2 and want such
links to work.

Your answer <wink> seems to imply that this result is intended.  Any idea if
this will be a permanent "feature" of IE7, or will it be changed in the
future?

I am not sure if Microsoft is trying to protect me from myself (opening
insecure links in a non-MS browser), or try to force the use of IE7 for OE
users, or if this is a bug in the beta......?

I have no idea if we'll see the same behavior when IE7 is finally released,
Steve.  (I don't think it'd be a good idea either.)

I just purchased a new computer already loaded with Vista Home Premium, and
Windows Internet Explorer.  I cannot open a link from e-mal or saved links on
my desktop unless Explorer is already  opened.  My  default program has been
set for  IE as suggested below, but it does not make any change to how links
operate.  Any suggestions?

It's always best to begin a new thread about /your/ problem, to avoid
confusion.

1. You click on a link and an IE window doesn't even open:

   http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx
   [ignore references to OE]

2. Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a
side-affect.  Check in at Windows Update.

Start | Default Programs
Make sure IE has all its defaults.

OK, I  thank two of  you  for  your responces.  I tried to  follow  both
suggestions  without achieving the goal  of being able to open Link short
cuts from e-mail or desktop link shortcuts without having to open IE first.

I stumbled upon the answer which is as follows;

Open Tools, then
Internet Options,
Security,
remove check mark from Enable Protect Mode

OK,  now I can open  links, but I also realize this may have lost some of
my protection and therefore, will leave things as they were.

Thanks again,

1. Re-enable Protected Mode.

2. Uninstall Norton AntiVirus.

Yes,I re-enabled Protect Mode,

I am not  using Norton.  I use
Windows Live OneCare

I have decided  just to get use  to opening IE first and let it sit in the
background.  Then the links  do open.

Thanks,

Paul
