I agree with you - recently having installed IE7. IE7 seems to be a fine
product which makes the Gmail Chat problem even worse - I do not use other
browsers. For the record, on just one occasion I logged into Gmail; my Quick
Contacts loaded and I was able to send / receive chat. It never happend
again, of course. I believe the problem is easy enough to "fix" - they (IE7)
has just not gotten around to it. Their "mircorsoft MVP's" are still
promoting Messenger - we ask a question and their response is a commercial -
quite irritating. Until they fix "their problem", try to use Gtalk. It is
linked with your Gmail account, all your contacts (you choose) are available.
Gtalk also offers "voice mail" and voice communication with your contacts
over your Gtalk connection. Even in IE7, you can close Gtalk to reduce it to
an icon in the systray. If someone contacts you, you will receive a notice :
it does not matter what tab you are on or how many you have open.

Ummm it's GOOGLE'S responsibility to make sure THEIR software works with
IE7 - NOT the other way around.

Actually, it would become the responsibility of the "greater service
provider" Microsoft has a long history of assuming these responsibilites -
this business attitude and sound, reliable sevice is the foundation of their
entire corporation. Truth be told - they will probably work together to
solve the problem. As I explained - the chat did work once. Evident that
"someone" is working on the problem... interesting you chose to take a
personal offense to my comment of who's problem it is... and it really does
not matter. I called in "their problem" because Microsoft will be the
"greater service provider", as they have always been...

Would that hold true if (say) IE7's JavaScript had added one and one and
come up with the answer 17.4 ? This was about the most extreme example I
could think of; extreme cases often highlight problems with theories.
Of course, if it was caused by some bizarre problem in Pentium
processors then both Google and MS would be off the hook (and stranger
things have happened).
