HP Printers and Vista do not play nice

It appears that almost everyone that posts a printer problem owns an HP
printer. HP will not support these customers and its drivers and CDs require
Windows XP. Something needs to happen...we need to print!

Description of my problem:
I connect to the print (Everything normal)
I install applicable drivers (Everything normal)
I print something (Everything normal)
I go to get it off the tray (Problem)

The document is sent to the printer (or the network host if necessary) but
either spools for about two minutes or "Printing" for two minutes and then
disappears from the queue.

Is is possible it might have something to do with the network permissions
(in Vista their called "credentials") and administrator access? But that's
just me. Its probably a driver problem -- again.

I have a HP Photosmart 2710 with the same problem.

Also on a side note: Why is this forum so full of NON Printer, Faxing,
Scanning posts?

I have been wondering the opposite.   Why are so many printer users
posting questions about installing printers on Vista in the IE newsgroup?

In fact there are so many of them and since they are all using
a web interface to newsgroups that I am wondering if there is
a bad link in one of the portals.

Your headers show you're using a web interface to newsgroups.
Which portal (URL) are you using?  If it lists the newsgroup I added
you may be able to enter it just by clicking on the link to it in the header
of my message.

Otherwise try this one:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.

Good luck

Ok 2 different things happen:

1. If I click on the link in your message header I go to a page that says
Help and support  The small window says "Windows Vista Newsgroups" but the
rest of the windows / areas are blank.

2. If I click on the link at the bottom of your post I go to "Windows Vista,
Printing, Faxing, and Scanning" group. But at the bottom it says it only has
2 pages. The "Printing, Faxing, and Scanning"  group I came from has 306
pages.

I also notice a slight title difference. Window Vista, Printing, Faxing, and
scanning  versus Printing, Faxing, and scanning . Curious?

I am using Windows Explorer 7+ to view the news groups.

I hope this helps,

Please capture what's in your Address bar then and post the result.

That's the URL I asked you for first or perhaps more importantly
I'd like to know where you linked to it from.

E.g. this one which is where you posted originally is actually
titled General Discussions  under  Windows  Internet Explorer.
That's newsgroup's archive now has  307  "pages".

Yes.  That's why I am requesting details so I can understand
how it is happening.   <w>

BTW  did you know you could also use your  Vista's  Windows Mail  app
to read newsgroups in  NNTP?

Use this server if you want to try that.   I'll give you the link that OE could use
but I'm not certain if  WM  can use it the same way or not:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/

E.g. if that doesn't work as a link for  WM  strip off the  news://  prefix
and use the rest as the server name for  NNTP  news.

In  OE  you could then just type  c.w vist  to see all the  Vista  newsgroups
listed (for English readers.), pick ones you want to "subscribe" to, etc.

For crying out loud...can we talk about HP printers please?

I can print a test page...but no color...HP DesignJet 9650 and HP DesignJet
500 (large format printer)...I've got over $3,000 in my printers, so don't
suggest buying "Epson" as a solution.

Vista is NOT ready to go...it ain't even close.

"Gadgets" are real neat...but I need to load AutoCAD 2004 and my HP printer
drivers and get back to work...I've lost days to this ridiculous OS.

I am truly embarassed for Microsoft.

You Installed a beta OS on a computer you use for work??? I suggest you
re-install whatever you used before so you can use your printer and AutoCAD
again. Testing a Beta OS is not worth it if its going to effect your
business!! Besides its normally recommended to test Beta programs on spare
machines, not the computer you need for work.

Plus I suspect many of the drivers people are moaning about wont appear till
Vists is finnally rolled out to public at earliest!

Sorry if that seems a bit mean, but it does seem a bit silly.

Hello Pete. This is probably a little too late to be of any help, but I have
a HP Deskjet D1320 on my PC desktop and I can print from this Vista (Build
5600) laptop just fine on the network router, check for the HP install disk,
and if that doesn't work contact Hewlett-Packard at www.hp.com/support.

Vista is ready. However HP isn't.

I'm able to use my HP printer (Photosmart 2575 AIO) through network
router. Scanner doesn't work though.

Hello Doug.
This is what I go through every time I do one  wront thing while using my HP
Dedkjet F380 on Vista 32 bit os.
I am in graduate school, so dont need the aggravation, but here goes:
everytime I print with my HP F380, everything goes fine except when I have
to stop the printer for one reason or another, such as clicking on  the stop
printing button while machine is printing., or if I run out of paper mid
print. Either way, stopping the printer seems to boot it out of the Vista
system, which means it doesn't even appear in the printer devices that are
listed.  After I do that, for some reason, I can no longer get the printer to
work. (by the way, the driver is okay and up to date) I go to HP and select
download all-in-one printer software right onto my harddrive. (click on tools
and delete temp files,) then download HP software, blah, blah,....I have
reloaded the printer from the website (not using the HP disk that came with
the printer) approximately 10 times since I hooked the printer to the
computer 8 months ago.
How I ever managed to find this ridiculous work around is beyond me. I guess
when desperation sets in you can do some interesting things, eh:
It's nice to know we aren't suffering alone, eh?
I feel blessed, so far this is the main problem I've had with the Vista os.
Good luck, and I feel your pain.

Not sure whether this will help but do you have latest driver:

&

I've a Compaq Laptop and found their email and phone support hopeless when I
had a couple of teething problems. Weeks delay and then an answer to the
wrong question.

It appears to be a pretty expensive item by today's standards - I'd be
inclined to return the item as it does not meet specifications `if you
cannot resolve the issue quickly.
