Upon installation of IE7 release can 1, may machine seems to take ages to
boot up.
When the machine boots the performance of IE7 is fantastic, but the slow boot
up is driving me crazy.
When I uninstall back to IE6 normal service is resumed.
Specs of machine
3.2ghZ Pentium D
2GB Ram
Windows XP sp 2

Anyone else have this problem?

At what stage of boot does thing slow down?  Pre user login? Post user
login?  Do the shortcuts on the desktop take a long time to load? Or is it
the systray?

One thing I did find on one machine in a domain environment was that blowing
away the user profile resolved the slow boot issue.. darned if I know why.

I have a similar issue.  We have a number of laptops running XP sp2 attached
to a 2003 domain.  Since installing IE 7, users have noticed login times
increased, especially when not connected to the network.

Machine is quick to boot to login prompt (20 secs), but then takes a while
applying computer settings and then "sits" there without any desktop icons
for a further 1-2 minutes.

I have removed any desktop shortcuts that contain UNC paths, but this makes
it no quicker.

I have enabled User Mode debug and the log is filled with multiple entries
of this;

USERENV(e00.e04) 09:40:53:081 ImpersonateUser: Failed to impersonate user
with 5.
USERENV(e00.e04) 09:40:53:081 GetUserNameAndDomain Failed to impersonate user

I have also built a fresh laptop, and it seems to only occur after IE 7 is
installed?

Any solutions would be welcomed.

Hi,

I have the same problem with my laptop. Windows XPsp2 and IE 7.  I have
reinstalled IE 7 several times and the same thing happens every time. It
takes up to 20 min. Yes 20 minutes, before the computer is ready to use.
When I go back to IE 6 the computer start normally and works fine. It
happens after I have been using the computer in my hospitals network and
starts it up again at home. After I have been using it outside the network
once - and waited 20 minutes, and then restart the computer, it starts
normally when using IE7. But the first time I use it after connected to
network I takes all that time. I do come to the log in screen and type my
username and password and then nothing happens.
It’s really frustrating. The hospital is using Windows 2000 server in their
network.

Best regards

Mine also takes forever to boot after IE7 and the update were loaded.  It
shows the Windows XP screen briefly, then goes black for several minutes,
then comes up with a light blue screen that says it needs to check drive F.
None of that happened before the IE7 upgrade.  Other than that, I love IE7.
