Hi,
See if you have an add-on installed that's incompatible with IE7.
See: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

I've had exactly the same problem with IE7, I've tried the workarounds but
still it keeps happening. It seems to happen particularly when you click on
another link on the page you're already at. The best answer I've found is to
simply start using FireFox, which is faster and doesn't keep crashing. Sorry
MicroSoft, but you really do need to sort this out, and not keep releasing
software full of bugs. This really doesn't make me want to go out and buy
Vista.....

What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Start Without
Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).

I have a similar problem. Any time I have two windows open (instead of tabs)
and one of the windows closes, IE has encountered a problem and has to close,
closing all windows. Running without addons does not help and I am starting
to get annoyed.....

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

I too am experiencing this problem. I have completed a comprehensive check
for virus, malware, greyware, etc and have re-installed IE7 but without
success. I think the only way forward is to follow PaulPh04's route and drop
IE in favour of something a bit more stable.

Yup! I hapily used firefox for 3 years then started working freelance with a
company that uses all microsoft based software. I begudgingly switched back
to IE, upgraded to 7 which FINALLY got tabs (the best feature of Mozilla) and
the thing is ALWAYS crashing!
And why would I want to run IE w/o addons? there are no probs with Mozilla
add ons? I like the Gmail button. I hate having to type in Gmail and log in
every time.
I am not happy with this software.
But to be fair, I am pleased with Office 2007 (The other software I had to
get when i switched companies)

I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop
and choose Start Without Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).
2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. See this

Same issue here,
I did a clean install of xp and ie7, then started adding my programs, all
was going good until i installed firefox, then the issue started again. Every
ten minutes or so, not sure if its related or a coincidence, but...
So i then removed firefox and started removing my other programs one by one.
The problem still persistes, but without firefox installed it seems more
stable now ... it's pretty anoying.

Hi,
I haven't heard of Firefox causing IE to crash. Conflicts can occur over
which is the default browser. I think that another program or browser add-on
is causing the problem. Keep disabling programs and add-ons.
Troubleshooting tip: What's happening every ten minutes? A program checking
e-mail? A program checking for updates? Every ten minutes would be a
rediculously short interval.
Was the Windows Firewall enabled from the time you first connected to the
internet? A computer can be infected by malware in just a few minutes.
Hope this helps,
Don
