Slow response is what I was getting with IE6 so when IE7 became available I
had hopes that the response time would improve.... nope.  I'm talking about
waiting over a minute for a page and I have a cable connection.

I thought it might be the sites I'm trying to access so I opened Firefox.
What I found was I can request a page using IE then open Firefox enter the
same address and get a response and when I click back to IE it is still
sitting there.

It hasn't been much more than a month ago that I reformatted my C drive and
reloaded XP Home Edition along with all updates including SP2 and I have been
getting slow response from IE before and after the reload.

I've turned off most everything I can think of including the new phishing
screener and regularly run disk cleanup but have't found the fix.

Could I be the only one on this planet having this problem?  Is there a fix?

Thanks,

Similar problem.  I tried IE7 and have gone back to IE6.  IE7 was too
slow getting to web sites.  Occasionally there would be a message
"Server Too Busy" or something like that.  It may be that the Microsoft
Anti-Phishing site gets in the way and can't handle the traffic.  There
were two other things I didn't like about IE7.  First, the shortcut
icons I've placed on my desktop to get me to specific web sites like
Google and Amazon had their own logos.  After installing IE7 the logos
all got changed to the "e" logo of IE7, and the "change icon" feature
of WinXP couldn't do anything about it.  Second, when I used the IE7
search window, which took me to my chosen search engine, Google, it
took longer to get there and there was garbage in the URL indicating to
Google that Microsoft had sent the search.  Probably a way for
Microsoft to extort money from Google in the future.

Try this:

Tools | Manage Add-ons | Enable or Disable Add-ons

Disable any add-ons you don't need. I found the Diagnose Connection
Problems add-on enabled even though I chose not to participate in this
feature. As soon as I disabled this add-on, I noticed a great
improvement.

Also, be sure to disable the Phishing Filter in Advanced Options under
Internet Options.

Sam, thank you for the information.  I checked it out and disabled about 5
items (of about 14 total).  Initial response appears to be faster but will
have to run it for a while to see.

Again, thank you.

I found that going into
(In IE 7)
Tools
Internet Options
Click on the Advanced Tab

Un-tick the two Http 1.1 boxes seems to resolve it.

(I read this on another forum, did it and it certainly makes
Google.com.au work as fast as it should!)

Hi Sam
I tried your suggestions and I am still having extremely slow response.  I
have to do something else while waiting for IE7 to respond.  Any other
suggestions.  IE6 worked fine so I may go back to that.
Thank you
