I downloaded IE7 (wish I hadn't).  Now the blasted thing opens up to a blue
screen and the tab says "customize your settings" but nothing happens.  If I
hit "home" (the little house) it goes to my home page.  This is annoying

Here's the fix....

1) Go to "Run", type regedit and hit OK
2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
3) Right click in the right side panel and click on "New" and choose "DWORD
value"
4) Add RunOnceHasShown in the area provided, hit enter, then double click it
and change the value from "0" to "1"
5) Lastly, do the exact same thing but type RunOnceComplete and change it's
value from "0" to "1".
6) Open up IE7 and it should go to your home page instead of that annoying
blank blue page with errors.

THANK YOU!  Jeez, I was about to go mental on that crap.  Sure, I could
have just hit the little radio button that said "leave my stuff alone"
but I hated being strong-armed into choosing again what I'd already
chosen before.  Since I had been blowing off the Customize Your
Settings (runonce.msn.com) window the RunOnceHasShown value was already
there and was a 1 (which I left alone).  All I had to do was add a
DWORD value of 1 under the name of RunOnceComplete as you have
suggested and BAM, all fixed up.

I wonder, though, why MS makes us hit a real live Internet site (which
I think the runonce.msn.com referenced) to change settings on our local
browsers.  Hmmm.

Anyway. Thanks for your answer to this problem.

I have been looking for a fix for this for nearly a month now.  I followed
your instructions exactly and it is now fixed and when I open Internet
Explorer 7 it now goes to my chosen home page.  Thank you so very much!!!

another way is to go into tools, manage add-ons.enable or disable add-ons and
disable all files that are not verified and apply that will get you into the
customize settings page to set your homepage and other settings.
