I downloaded the IE7 install package and I tried to install it and it seems
to go through the install, but at the end it tells me that it failed to
install and then asks me to reboot. I followed the checks on the IE7 install
troubleshooting site but nothing seems to work. Has anyone seen anything like
this?

The exact same thing is happening to me and I tried all of the
troubleshooting techniques they had on their site and none of them worked.  I
don't know if it was because I was running Norton, but I disabled it and it
still didn't work, and whether I checked or unchecked the malicious removal
thing had no effect, it still failed

You may have a horked install of IE7.  I suggest reading the following
link...

Sandi's notes on "IE7 Gold", including Installation Tips

...and then uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 per Sandi's tips.

I checked out the links you gave me. First I downloaded the IE7 install
program to my PC, then I ended up uninstalling my AVG antivirus program,
ewido antispyware program, and zone alarm program. I cleared all my IE temp
files and any other temp files I could find. I rebooted my computer then
tried to install IE7 again and it installed without a hitch. I rebooted twice
after the install before opening IE7. I reinstalled all of the programs I
uninstalled and connected my computer back to the Internet and downloaded and
installed the latest updates for IE7. It is working like a charm now.
Thanks!!!
