1) Basic Functionality Separated
Address, forward, backward, favourites and home are the most basic and
commonly used buttons on any browser. But in IE7 (by default)...
- Forward back and address are on one bar at the top
- Home has been moved to some new kinda button bar bottom right, and as far
away from the address bar and forward/back buttons as you could get them.
- Favorites is now at the opposite side from home. Why are you splitting
basic functionality all over the menu?
Suggestion: Regroup related functionalities close together in a logical group.
2) So Many Search Boxes!
The little search box next to the address bar. Ok nice try, but serious
googlers will have the google toolbar installed, which provides exactly the
same functionality but with a few extras. BUT... I can find no way of
turning off your built in search box AND I use features from google toolbar.
Therefore I have to have 2 search boxes open ALL the time wasting UI space.
I have to have the toolbar have its own row in the menu area instead of
tucked away neatly at the end of the toolbars. Make the address bar
configurable.
Suggestion: Allow the search box to be hidden. Make the address bar back
into another toolbar where I can drag the google toolbar, so its all nice and
compact again
3) Why so BIG!
Did your tabs have to be so big? damn I could click them with a 10 foot
barge pole, they are like a centimetre inch high? Why waste so much screen
real-estate? The entire menu bar is now about 2 inches high? God help anyone
who runs in less than 1023 resolution and even then you are going to be
cramped.
Suggestion: More options to reduce size of ui components, also see above for
reducing wasted screen estate.
It's not that the browsers bad, I just boggle at the UI decisions

Man, I so agree with everything you just said.
Basically I want:
1) Back button bigger. I use it A LOT. Why is it so small? Yes, I know I can
set the buttons to be "large" but this also makes the already-too-big "tab
bar" excruciatingly huge. Why not have different options for both sets of
bars?
2) Tabs smaller. They're way too big with no option to make them more
conventional (like every other tab in the Windows world).
3) Search box replaceable by more funcional and full-featured bar (like
Google bar). Let me hide it and move another bar in its place.
4) Flyaway/Autohide Favorites pane (where you hover the mouse over an icon
and it appears and then disappears when you move away.... just like the
Taskbar does when you set it to Auto-hide and just like all the toolboxes in
Visual Studio). Plus... Favorites folders should expand when you hover over
them.

I agree with your assertions.
Check here for a tip on how to remove the extra search box:

I totally agree with you on #1. In fact, I find this *so* annoying that I
may actually give up on IE7 until this issue is addressed (if ever).

If you have a bundle of urls in Favorites, try to sort
them alphabetically. IT DOES NOT. What a mess !
Hope they change it.....

I agree. I've always hated repetition of features that wastes screen space in
a program. For example, in the tabs row in IE7, the "Command Bar", the
favorites control icons to the left of the tabs, and even the tabs themselves
are repetitions of what is available in the menu bar (File, Edit, etc.) and
keyboard commands. You can get the same function as the tabs themselves by
just pressing Ctrl-n. You get a new tab at the bottom of your screen, to the
right of the Start menu.
I have switched back to IE6!
