I just downloaded IE7 and when I click on the icon to surf the internet, I
get a blue screen and an error diolog box that states

    Line:  56
    Char:   2
    Error: 'window.external' is null or not an object.
    Code:  0
    URL: http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

The IE7 address box has the above URL address in it.  I try to refresh the
screen, but I get the same error dialog box.

I know what a mouse is and I know what a keyboard is, but I do not know what
a null or object is.  How do I fix this?  Anyone know?

It seems to be a botched post install feature that’s supposed to save
settings to an xml file, I think. I’ve seen a few work a rounds that require
changing or adding settings to the registry but I think I’ll wait till they
get it right. If you want to try the work around check here-

That is for beta 3, mentions only one key, and no longer works reliably.

The email address I use for newsgroups is a spam trap and does not get read.

Sorry, your right about the answer but if you read down a little farther more
recent post mention both keys & the second link mentions a few more
suggestions, I should have noted that.

Make sure scripting is not disabled.

If that doesn't fix it, save the part between the lines below and paste into
Notepad.  Save as Runonce.reg

---------------------Runonce.reg--------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001
"RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001

-----------------------------------------------------

Right click Runonce.reg and choose Merge.

To change all Windows users at once use

---------------------Runonce2.reg--------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001
"RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001

Hi,
It's likely that a security program is interfering with the "runonce"
Configuration page.
See these articles for workarounds:
"Problem: IE always goes to http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx instead
of your homepage" at
http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/troubleshoot.asp
and/or (similar solution)
945385- A blank Web page is displayed when you start Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945385/en-us

Hope this helps,
Don
