My computer is destroyed. I have XP home with all the latest updated and
virus protections. After installing IE7 (that is far from good) my outlook
cant check for mails (just a general error, no problem with the internet
connection). My symantec AntiVirus2007 cant run live update any more. Trying
to solve this with a reinstallation on AntiVirus the reinstallation fails! I
did run a virus check just before this and no viruses vere found. Fact is all
worked just before I installed IE7, and several errors apperes just after the
installation. I have also uninstalled IE7. Nothing helps!!!! I will now
reinstall XP AND NEVER EVER INSTALL EI7 AGAIN. Its amazing what a crappy
thing microsoft has produced. (Firefox is also by far a better browser, but
that's another story)

Golly!  Not a single problem here.  But I don't have any malware picked up
browsing unsafe sites or downloading unsafe third party programs like
Messenger Plus.

I have no idea how you got that idea.
I do get tired of clearing its junk off other people's machines, though.

You know, when I installed IE7 it put up a screen warning to turn off any
ant-virus program.

Perhaps I'm being paranoid but I would treat with deep suspicion any program
that insisted I turn off anti virus before installing.

Fourdogs - 04 Nov 2006 21:06 GMT
My installation did not say anything about turning off any antivirus or any other app.  Since I installed IE7, with NSW, ZA Pro, and
Webroot Spysweeper all running, I have not found any problems related to IE7.  The only thing that I miss is the link to my OE
newsgroups.  Just dumb luck?  Maybe so.  My first computer was running Win 95 and I have had very few problems with updates, since.
IE7 is just different and I will get used to the moved icons.  The purported safer browsing is worth more to me than relearning
where my icons moved to.

is not a big deal solve your problems ;-)

Firefox 1.x was a excelent browser vs IE6, but Ffox 2.0 vs IE7 are near the
same... but IE does not has Ffox-like extensions :(

machines without any problems.

That fact alone should tell you something. Most people just have the

I just did a search for posts by BillD in this newsgroup. His usual,
very-unhelpful responses tend to be: "Everything in IE7 works fine for me."
(Left unsaid is his implication that since everything works fine for him,
the rest of the people having problems, or who don't like certain features,
with IE7 must be idiots.

I think that BillD is a shill placed in here by Microsoft to give people
encouragement. But a charmer he isn't.

This is the most active newsgroup on MS servers. I guess it's because no
one is having problems with IE7.

Sure.

Pull the other one; it has bells on it.

I didn't say no one.  Compared to the number of people installing it, there
are relatively few posts.  Were you in the IE6 newsgroups when IE6 was
released?

It hasn't hit the general public yet. Only people with English XP are
being offered the download.

The fact that one must disable all anti virus and anti malware programs
and make sure they don't reenable after a reboot leads me to believe
there will a lot more problems than you would like people to believe.

Being as the only web site I use IE for is Windows Update and PCPitstop,
I see no need to risk putting it on my computer.

R.O.F.L.  "Alias" maybe you should have someone set it up for you. It's very
simple to install and tweak it.

Oh, I am 99% sure I could install it because I have read up on how to
prepare. I just see no need.

OK, I am not a FF user and I personally don't think any browser is better or
safer than the other, except IE 7 does have a sloppy installation process
and MS did not pay enough attentions to advising installing IE 7 since it is
not totally independent to OS.

And I do try help people here with what I've learned.

With that said, you are the one made up statistics.  How do you know most
don't have problems and do you even consider many couldn't make their way to
here?  If they have problem with IE 7 and don't have alternative browser,
plus those who can't find newsgroups, how do you expect them to come here?

People like you are destroying reputations of MVP and MS!

I haven't found a problem with it yet. Must be the junk on your computer
that is causing the problem.

For what it's worth, I used Windows Update to "upgrade" to the full
release of IE7, and now IE crashes as SOON as it loads ANY page.

Yay.

Reading the posts on this NG I approached installing IE7 with some
trepidation.  I did, however, take the precaution of cloning my hard disk
so, if the proverbial SH*T did hit the fan, I could just switch hard drives
and clone the working, no problems hard disk back.

The first impression of IE7 is that I don't like it.  This is more likely
because a change in presentation away from what one is used to is always a
bit of a wrench.  Time will tell whether or not I will feel the need to
revert to IE6.

Me too - IE7 starts up, gets me to the "runonce" page where it asks if I
want to keep Google as my default search engine but doesn't let me answer
that question because it then throws up a message saying that Internet
Explorer encountered a problem and had to close. Something about memory that
could not be read.

I have run anti virus and antispyware checks.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled in safe mode,
uninstalled other programs on my system then reinstalled, but to no avail.
I have gone back to using the previous Internet Explorer.

I have successfully installed IE7 on several other computers, but that
doesn't help solve the problem. I may try again in six months to see if
Microsoft have made any changes that enable me to use IE7.

I was reluctant to install IE7 ... but since my XP install was a clean
reinstall in August, and I did SP2 in September, I figured it might be safer
than if this were an old patched patched patched patched patched system.

IE7 works fine ... I did not have any installation problems. (But I think
IE7 is lame ... I'm going right back to Avant.)

Fundamental problems like not being able to use FrontPage ftp anymore is a
serious oversight - I can't believe anyone releasing software with this bug
IN THEIR OWN APPLICATION!

I can drag and drop individual pages, but that is no good for the dynamics,
normal uploading of changes produces a "Serious Error" send the info to
Microsoft etc...

The event viewer tells me its wininet.dll:
Date xxxxxx    Source: Microsoft Office 11
Time xxxxxxx  Category: None
Type: Error    Event ID 1000
User N/A
Computer xxxxxxx

Faulting application frontpg.exe, version 11.0.6552.0, stamp 424b714f,
faulting module wininet.dll, version 7.0.5730.11, stamp 454283b4, debug? 0,
fault address 0x00001a35.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Of course going to the suggested fwlink provides me with absolutely nothing!
I use ftp daily on a much read website, and this is just too bad!!!

No replies to this one yet from the "know-it-alls".
Give someone the details and they just shy away it seems?

No acknowledgement of the issue first found in beta
No solution to the issue first found in beta
No apology for the time wasting all this causes.
We should get paid for our time, after all this is basically a self help R&D
for MS!

Seriously, when are they going to sort it?????

FrontPage is the cause of most of the sloppy and bad html pages existing on

Course it is. Don't use it.

I use Front Page 2000 all the time and no problems with either the .htms
or the .htmls

That's probably because you know what you are doing. The majority of bad
html is, unfortunately, written using FrontPage!

Anyway guys... and apart from personal preferences...

Are there any actually helpful solutions to what was a perfectly workable
situation before ie7. I'm just wanting to get something done without chancing
a worse outcome!

Cheers,
David

I use WS_FTP95 and have since Windows 95. It's a stand alone program
that works similar to Windows Explorer. It's still available on the Net
and works great with XP.

Thank you Alias. Thing is, I can drag and drop ftp page by page no problem
within Frontpage.

Its the "Publish" function (that accounts for changed dynamics -
borders/menus etc) that is screwed. It seems from other posts where people
have ftp issues it is where there is an append or maybe where there is a
certain sequence of events to the ftp.

I gather there are multiple issues coming up with what may be a common cause
that is affecting wininet.dll - or caused by its latest incarnation.

I couldn't wait any longer as I need to do some work, so I decided to do a
system restore.

I tried three restore points before my installing IE7 on 2nd November (2 on
1st November and 1 on 31st October). None of them would restore.

31st Oct was a formal System Restore point, but it came back and said:
"Your Computer cannot be restored to 31st October 2006 System Checkpoint, No
Changes have been made to your computer."

As this was my third attempt I suppose I have to give up on this "solution"
too?

System Restore will not remove IE7.  You have to uninstall using the Add/Remove programs in the
control panel.

I appreciate your reply.

Add or Remove programs usually leaves a trail of changed items. As I do not
know the reason for the fault, and as I gather IE7 makes some radical changes
throughout the shell it was the safest way to ensure a clean reversal.

Given I am stuck, Given nobody will acknowledge the issue or can resolve it,
I shall now take my chances with this route - with much trepidation!

Internet Explorer 7 has gone!
All those rogue wininet.dll files gone!
Frontpage has now completed two Publish processes perfectly!
Go on guys, don't waste our sad lives trying to sort Microsoft MISCREANT
issues
Just get rid of them!

A wasted a week of late nights, early mornings achieving very little apart
from trawling through vague mutterings and other cries of despair

Now I can just do what I need, then get on with doing something else

You can break the addiction
Windows Internet Explorer Seven – Just say “NO”
Go out and meet people
Earn Money
Go on holiday
Make babies (and buy them a Mac)
If not, lets' try Windows 98 again, yes there's no support - but what's new!
(My six year old Dell Laptop has worked fine with it up to now)
OK so I’m just getting excited…

this is a late reply but if others read this and have same issue then its
worth typing in.  the problem you had occurred from the browser you put in
new being set to not atuomatically detect LAN settings.   just go into
browser and hit tools, then internet options, then connections tab, then LAN
settings button, then check box that says "automatically detect settings".
this will cure it.  i found this out when i had the SAME problem and the SAME
symptoms as you had-haven't had any problems since! (thank goodness).
