I am very annoyed by the new ie7 because when i open a new window, I
automatically get sent to the old window that I was previously browsing in.
ie6 did not do this. I did not find a way to tweak the settings so that the
window I open remains the one that I am viewing.

Hi bunny :-)

Try this and see if it will help:

Go to Tools> Internet Options> Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google, MSN or Yahoo, disable
them.  Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.  If you have it uninstall it.
If you have any 3rd party software, popup or ad blockers, disable them.
With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

I have yahoo toolbar. I guess that was the cause : ( It is hard to part with
it!  Do you think there is a way for windows and/or yahoo to make a patch so
I can once again use them together without being super annoyed?

You're very welcome!  I'm very glad to hear you were able to resolve your
problem.  Good job!

Did you download the IE7 with the Yahoo toolbar included? If not, perhaps
you might like to uninstall the IE7 and downlaod and try that one.  It might
work better.  Just a thought, as I never use Yahoo.

The new Internet Explorer 7 optimized for Yahoo

WOW!!! This has been bugging me for months! Almost as frustrating as trying
to find these forums for help - cause you know there aint no support from MS!

I simply did a REMOVE PROGRAM on my yahoo toolbar and NOW when I open any
subsequent IE7 browser windows, it simply defaults to my homepage as it
should and stays right there as it should! No more reverting back to the
original browser window I had opened! THANK YOU Jan - you;re a genius!!!

Removing (or updating) third-party add-ons must be among the most
repeated advice in this newsgroup. It's suggested hundreds of times
every week.

To easily find this newsgroup, subscribe to it with your newsreader.
It's almost effortless. If you insist on using the web interface - you
masochist - create a shortcut to the web page.
