IE7 - Problem with Proxy Exceptions

Hello,

since we upgraded to IE7 (German Version 7.0.5730.11) we have troubles with
the User Authentication which is set to "Automatic login only in Intranet
zone".

Our Intranet zone is identified by following settings:
- Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones
- Include all sites that bypass the proxy server
- Include all network paths (UNCs)

In the Local Area Network Settings following Proxy settings are enabled:
- Bypass proxy server for local addresses

In the advanced Proxy settings we have following Exception:
- Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with:
    *.ourdomain

All settings above allowed us, when using IE6,  to connect to our intranet
site "http://intranet.ourdomain" without being asked for username and
password. IE7 seems to ignore the Proxy Exceptions, and annoys us by
authentication popups.

I know there exists a workaround by adding the ebsite
"http://intranet.ourdomain" to the local intranet zone, but I'm not lucky
with this solution.

Does anyone has an idea what's the real cause of the problem?
Is it a bug in IE7?

Thanks

So, you switched off the "automatic detect"?

It should be "off", the automatic detection is buggy.

Can you please give the full and exact exception list? You can replace the
main identifying string of the domain with something generic, but I would
really like to see the suffix for instance.

Once you are logged in to the Intranet server, what zone is shown on the
status bar?

Proxy exception: 10.*.*.*;*.gg

When I open our Intranet this way: http://ataweb it works fine. The status
bar shows local intranet as zone. When I use http://ataweb.gg the status bar
shows Internet and I'm asked for username and password. That's why I have the
feeling IE7 ignores the exceptions.

AFAIK, IP addresses don't work at all as exceptions. The other one should work.

Which is a bit mysterious to me.

Ok, *does* adding the site to Local Intranet Sites solve the problem? If yes,
then you hit an old problem that already existed in IE6. There's also a KB
article about that. Sometimes IE will simply not recognize a site from the
proxy exception list as being Local Intranet.

You can try a few workarounds, maybe one of them works:

ataweb.gg
*ataweb.gg
*.ataweb.gg
*ataweg.gg*

and so on. Also try using an FQDN for that server, "ataweb.gg" is only a domain
name and does not qualify as an FQDN. The above exceptions would then fit for
that FQDN.

BTW: is "gg" the primary domain suffix of the PC you use as a client, so that
the computername is something like thispc.ataweb.gg? (compare at My
Computer/Computer Name)

Hello Kai,

thanks for your replies so far.
To clarify: ataweb is the name of our intranet server. gg is our domain.

Yes this helps and is used as a workaround at the moment by us.
The second "workaround" is a proxy.pac file we use. We have no problems with
the proxy exceptions in the proxy.pac file.

Doesn't work

My computer name is aw220070.gg, the domain is GG

Hi,

I had the same problems : I confirm that theres is a workaround by
implementing a list of trusted sites in the Intranet Zone and I confirm too
that theres is no problem when you configure these exceptions in a Proxy.pac
script file.

However, I still have a problem with authentication when using IE7 when I
try to view (and my users WILL) videos on different sites like TF1.FR or
ARTE-TV : the problem is that I have a proxy authentication as the stream is
trying to begin

I don"t have this problem in IE6 : I use native options in Authentication in
the Internet Zone (Automatic connexion in Intranet Zone) and I add My proxy
adress in the trusted sites of the intranet zone.

In IE7 this workaround doesn't work.

If you have any advice or idea ......

Thanx
