I had a failed ie7 install the other day. I uninstalled and now I
can't load any web pages in ie6 or Firefox 2. I have a good internet
connection (email still works), but when I go to google or Yahoo, it
just says done on the status bar.
What is wrong?
How do I fix it?
I have XP Pro, SP2 all currently updated.
I have been searching for an answer for 4 days to no avail.
Thanks,
Brian
You may want to try re-setting your default browser, but don't just unset and
re-set it within the browser you want. Instead, close all browsers, set one
of the other browsers as the default, close it and then re-set it on the one
you actually prefer.
Also, have you tried using Opera? Just a suggestion. For me, it works much
faster (and better in so many other ways). Unfortunately, some sites require
IE.

Sometimes it is a winsock/lsp problem.
remove all network adapters from device manager
reboot and rebuild network connection
fixed?

That did not work. There must be something in xp that got screwed up
when I had the failed IE7 install. The connection checks out fine.
The page looks like it will load (takes some time), but then nothing
appears.

Here is another note, I can load my personal web page:
http://home.comcast.net/~bgmess/index.html. It loads ok, I have a
link to a news site, and when I click on it, nothing happens. Why can
I load the personal site, but not any others?
I am really lost for a solution.

Do you have a firewall or other security software that may be blocking
access?
Norton or McAfee security suite? Zone Alarm?
If so, disable them & check.
Malware can cause issues as well.
I would run a scan in safe mode, first with my AntiVirus software, then with
my antispyware.

I removed all the network adapters and reinstalled them. That did not help.
I still can not get any pages to load in either IE6 or FF 2.0.
I tried to reinstall IE7, but it will not install.
I have to beleive that the failed IE7 install screwed up something in XP,
but I don't know what.
What can cause the web pages to not load, even though my connection is fine.

A misconfigured firewall.
