I have a CRT monitor, could that be the
reason why my text appears blurry?
Checking and unchecking Clear Type
doesn't change the blurry text. So
if the problem is with the monitor do
I have to now buy a new LCD monitor?

CRTs usually render text very well. Try htis to see if it helps -

Clear Type was designed for LCD monitors

Yes, it was designed for LCDs but it will sometimes help on a CRT.

Which make and model of monitor and video card do you have?

What are your current settings (resolution etc)?

In my experience CRT monitors are not as clear as LCD monitors at the same
resolution.  While the difference is not great, it is enough that I
completely changed all the computers over to LCD.

One thing you can try is lowering the screen resolution one notch.
Right click the desktop and choose Properties | Settings.
