ie error when starting?

"internet explorer has stopped working" windows has stopped working. This is
the error message whenever I start IE. I reset ie options and at times will
work but it is very slow.

What OS - Vista?  XP?

Right click on desktop icon and select Start Without Add-ons.  Does it
persist?
