Problems with mouse since last round of updates

I have Vista Home Premium, which was preinstalled on a new laptop. Since the
last round of updates, if I allow my mouse pointer to hover over a link, it
opens the link! I can hardly read what I want on the current page unless I
make certain to move the pointer off to the side. I thought this might be a
hardware setting, but I can't find it. Obviously this only happens in IE7. By
the way, my device is a Synaptics touchpad.

Any suggestions?

Does this happen on every web page, or only on web pages that include
advertisements made to look like hyperlinks?

Check your driver.  Look for an update or if already done, rollback driver.
Does it persist?
If customized settings, revert to default settings - does it persist?
