my I.E. has stopped working again. this is the second time. i am running
windows vista and have already tried using with add ons disabled and
resetting I.E. nothing has helped. the first time this happened i had to just
reinstall my vista O.S. to get explorer to work again. i do not want to do
this again. i have also noticed that when this happens my AIM instant
messenger will also not work. any ideas???

Unfortunately, the only thing you've told us is that "I E has stopped
working". That's not nearly enough information for anyone to help you.

I understand that you're frustrated. You have to understand that no one
can help you unless you provide a sufficiently detailed description of
your symptoms.

What exactly does "stopped working" mean? Are you seeing any error
messages? What are you doing when Internet Explorer runs into trouble?
Are you having any other symptoms when trouble starts - please describe
in detail. Does Event Viewer have any information that might help?

Could your computer be infected with malicious software (virus, adware,
trojan, spyware, hijacker, etc.)

Could any settings in your security software be interfering with
Internet Explorer? Could the problem lie with your connection to the
internet?

You see, unless you can better define your problem, the possible causes
are almost endless.

sorry, my frustration must have got the best of me. its not my connection
because firefox works fine. yes, i get the message that internet explorer
cannot display the webpage. than when i click on dianose the problem it says
that the webpage(any i put in) is not set up to establish a connection on
port world wide web service(http) with this computer.  this happens when i
first try to open IE. there are no other syptoms. there is no malicious
software on my computer. i have run the scan from windows for this. and i
have checked the security settings and they are not a problem. i'm stumped as
to why this happens. hope this helps some more. thanks!

Error message in Internet Explorer 7: "Internet Explorer cannot display
the webpage"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926431/en-us

To be sure that your computer is free of malicious software you need to
use several of the better online scanners, sometimes including 'HiJack
This'. There is no "scan from Windows" that does this.

I have the same !@E#%# problem, for the second time, and nothing in the
support page works. My only option right now.........a system recovery. I
can't even go to any restore point. Hijack this is mumbo jumbo and if my
business didn't require ie I would just use the Firefox. &%@!!

And why does your business "require" ie. Just curious.

The Malicious Software Removal Tool looks for specific versions of a
limited number of malicious applications. It was never intended to
replace a full-out anti-malware application, and is only updated once a
month.

Malicious Software Removal Tool
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

"The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks
computers...for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software..."

"You should also use up-to-date antivirus software to help protect your
computer from other malicious software."

If the Malicious Software Removal Tool is all you've been using to save
your computer from malicious software, you need to start from the ground
up, and your computer is almost certainly infected by now.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author.  See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything.  Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along.  Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

I'm a Realtor and the company that manages our MLS has written our program
for IE. Don't know why, or why Firefox doesn't work for it but they even
admit to us that IE is the only one that will work.
