About a week to two weeks ago, all my feeds in my IE7 stopped updating
automatically. I don't know if this is connected to the installation of
Windows Live Mail (ex desktop/client) which also has feeds managed in it.

However I can manually update the feeds but I don't want to do that with all
my feeds over and over. Is there a fix for this which doesn't mean me having
to reinstall IE 7 on my windows XP home machine?
MY IE7 version is 7.0.5730.11

I wouldn't be surprised if Windows Live Mail "hijacked" your RSS feeds.

Hi,

Thanks Robear and Jonathan for the feedback.  Hopefully these steps fix the
issue with your feeds updating. Do this to check your IE7 rss update
settings:

In the feeds pane on the right in IE7, right click any feed and select
"Properties..."

Then take a look at whether "Use default schedule" or "Use custom schedule"
is selected.  From that same window you can also see how frequently IE7 is
updating your feeds.  If "Use default schedule" is grayed out, click the
"Settings..." button next to it and make sure "Automatically check feeds for
updates" is checked.

Let me know if this solves your problems with IE7 updating your feeds.

I'll investigate to see what could have caused this to happen.

Thanks,
Anthony

I too used to have this problem, still do on occasions and could never work
out how to fix it.

I have my schedule set for every 30 minutes yet the only way to get the
feeds to update is to manually right click on them and tell them to update.

Clicking 'Update Feeds' in WLM doesn't update them either when this problem
occurs.

Hi

On the internetexplorer.general newsgroup where i stared this i managed to
report a fix...

Not sure what caused this to happen but after being told to look at
Scheduled tasks...
My RSS feeds seemed to stop running after WLM installed, however I am not
sure if WLM did this, it could have been an issue I had with iTunes (and
subsequent system restores to fix the issues).

==== Original post ====

I have actually managed to fix to issue after you pointed me to the ST
window.

Turned out that the Protected Storage Service was corrupted.
I searched microsofts database and found article 246183 and deleted the
S-1-5-18 folder while in safe mode from c:\documents and settings\all
users\application data\microsoft\crypto\rsa\s-1-5-18
Rebooted and sure enough it worked.
I have not only RSS back but all other tasks i forgot were not running when
they should have.

Thanks guys.

By chance when was the last time you rebooted? 'Feeds Update' task is run for the first 72 hours your computer is running. If you haven't rebooted in a while, this is why.

My computer is normally switched off over-night.
The task for the feeds update goes under what name in task manager? Perhaps the task isn't running.

It's an invisible task. Open Scheduled Tasks and under one of the menu options is the setting to show all. If after enabling it you don't see them, go into Internet Settings -> Content -> Feeds and make sure updating regularly is turned on. If it is on, turn it off and back on. Watch the scheduled tasks window for it to appear.

How have you determined that Feeds Update task behaves like this?

Yeah by design the task is set to run for 72 hours and then stop. I'm one who sometimes runs for a week or more without rebooting and found out by looking at the task it's designed to stop at that point. Because of this I have to make my way to the Feeds setting in IE to stop then restart it so it'll run for another 3 days.

Cannot reproduce.  I might reboot my WinXP SP2 machines twice a month: My
RSS Feeds are checked without fail every 4 hours, exactly as I've configured
it.
