I recently downloaded the new updates and now I can no longer open new tabs
from the address bar. Also, as I have seen in other threads, I am unable to
save my home page, it defaults to MSN.com.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled, spywared, malwared, virus checked, rolled
back, yada yada yada and it is still not functional.
This problem is now on both of my XP computers not on my Vista computer.
Does anyone know if Microsoft is working on this problem? I have not
received any replies yet from them, but it is very annoying to leave your
computers for the evening to find they are practically unusable the next day.

Hi,
> Does anyone know if Microsoft is working on this problem?
There don't appear to be widespread problems associated with the most recent
updates.
Homepage...
These and other third-party programs can lock the IE homepage. Examine the
settings of security/privacy/antispyware programs for the option to lock
homepage, lock IE control panel, lock IE settings, etc.
Spybot (Advanced Mode) Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Ad-aware Pro
Norton AV 2006 (Web Browsing > Spyware protection)
McAfee AV or Antispyware
Spyware Blaster
Spysweeper
Zone Alarm- free and pro.
If you don't wish to dig through settings of whichever security/privacy
programs you have installed, you may be able to startup in Safe Mode, change
the homepage then restart the computer. That won't always work- an earlier
version of Zone Alarm free had to be uninstalled.

Tabs...
You may have an incompatible browser add-on.
See: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/troubleshoot.asp
for troubleshooting information.
The troublesome program may not show up as an add-on. Disable other
security, privacy, ad-blocking programs to see if one of them is causing the
problem. Any program that interacts with Internet Explorer could be causing
this. The connection with IE may not be obvious, such as Google Desktop.
A firewall will probably not be causing this problem, but be sure to turn on
the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall before disabling a
third-party firewall or security suite during testing.
Hope this helps,
Don

Sites opened from the Address Bar have always opened in the selected tab,
not as new one.

Frank,
Actually that is an incorrect statement. for one thing it always did, ergo
the problem noticed.
Secondly, If you use the IE7 Pro add-in, it has an option to open a new tab
from the address bar.
I reinstalled the IE7 Pro add-in and it fixed 90% of the problems. Just a
few more to go.
Hate to rain on your parade.

The statement was correct since you hadn't mentioned that you had an add-on
to do this. I've used several versions of IE7 and none opened a new tab
from the Address Bar. Apparently that add-on was broken.

I always had that functionality until the last update. I did not install IE7
Pro until after the problem manifested itself. So, either I go lucky on a
previous update, or it was a functionality removed from the basic version.
Either way, I solved my problem.

I don't use this as seems a longer method and I don't know
if this is what OP refers to but for me (XPsp2-no IE helpers)
ALT+ENTER
will open the website address
highlighted or typed in the Address Bar in new tab.
