Sorry, I'm not going to get a Windows Live ID just to participate.

> Microsoft established this requirement for all of their TechNet Chats, the MVPs did NOT !

It's MS that loses out by not having those with valid email addys
attending these chats. Same with those who want to have their systems
scanned for malware at LiveOneCare or whatever it's name is today.
The malware detected is skewed because *some*, or a great deal of folks,
do NOT desire a 'Windows LiveID'.

There are some benefits in a Live Id, aren't there?
Anonymous chats are so tempting for abusers...

I'm not complaining about Live ID per se. It's a fine thing, if that's
what you like.

However, a Live ID should not be required to participate in a chat, and
a moderated chat doesn't need a Live ID to prevent abuse. This is just
another way for some people at Microsoft to coerce users to get a Live ID.

Perhaps for MS, there are benefits. It's not as if one couldn't create a
phony identity using Live ID, right ?
Why isn't a valid email address sufficient ?

maybe by giving a real email address ms at least knows you are legit.
Microsoft is the only one that sees it and all you really need to do is make
a passport account so what is the big deal anyway?
also this announcement needs to be put in all ms newsgroups.
I had no idea this was happening until i just popped in here
I am normally in the windows defender ms newsgroup and I am betting the
folks in there might like to attend one of these chats too.

Guess there are other ways to prevent bot abuse (for which Microsoft is a
tempting target). But lately bots become well compatible with CAPTCHA.
