Each Time I start IE, I have to set the browser, remove the menu and toolbars.
Isn't IE supposed to save the settings? (xp pro sp2 & IE7)

I'm looking to completely remove any toolbars from IE, all I want is a
browser page
that will allow customers to peruse a webpage.
MS SteadyState does almost everything but I just need to be able to
permanently remove all the toolbars from IE.

I have found some registry settings that give some good charactersitics but
a good reference is REALLY needed.
How does one find all registry settings that will affect IE? ..or any
settings for a program?

Any suggestions?

If you want to remove all other toolbars, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs.
Remove all instances of "known" toolbars (i.e. google, yahoo, firefox,
etc....)

There is a Windows SteadyState Community.  You may wish to join the
discussions.

Firefox is not a toolbar ... it's a *real* webbrowser ... not as IE7 !

The kiosk mode is what ALMOST I need. iexplore -k does almost everything
but I would still like to know how to remove buttons, menus, and anything
else
that someone could use to take control of IE.

A user could get around the kiosk mode if a link opens a new window.
The NoOpninNewWnd reg setting doesn't seem to stop all new windows from
opening

Yes, I do know how to add/remove programs but I need registry settings or
switches in IE that aren't widely publicized.

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make.  A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled.  Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

I am not trying to hijack this thread, but it seems to be the place
where IE meets Spyware Doctor, so here goes....

About a week ago I started having what I thought was a benign problem
with Spyware Doctor. Instead of informing me a couple or three times
per day that updates were available, the rate jumped to once per hour
or more. Tonight I decided to uninstall that turkey since I also have
Webroot Spy Sweeper. Spyware Doctor has never found anything and takes
twice as long to run as Spy Sweeper. Furthermore Spy Sweeper has
informed me of problems never mentioned by Spyware Doctor. Of course I
only had a free copy of S.D. downloaded from Google service pack so
that might make a difference. Anyway after the uninstall/reboot/
cleanup process I got onto the net and guess what happened ? Windows
automatic updates found the previously uninstalled KB933566 update to
IE!

I conclude that somebody was using the evaluation copy of S.D to hack
my machine and suppress the automatic Microsoft security updates, or
alternatively that S.D. evaluation version causes a problem. I hope
that this information was helpful to everybody, a small compensation
returned for the help which I have received free from others
lately....

I know nothing whatsoever about the capabilities of
Spyware Doctor because what I was running was almost certainly a
malware clone. See thread :
