IE7 not closing correctly

Recently, following the recent Microsoft updates, my IE7 does not seem to
close properly.  I first noticed this because I couldn't open a web site from
Favourites, or direct from shortcuts to IE7, nothing was happening.  By
chance I discovered that if I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del, that iexplore was
running, when I closed this down amazingly the IE7 window opened normally.
Since this first observation I have noticed that the first time I open IE7,
everything is normal, but SOMETIMES, the closure of IE7 leaves iexplore
running as a process and subsequent attempts to open IE7 do not work -
nothing happens.  This can result in a number of instances of iexplore
running as processes and the IE7 window will not upon until these are all
closed down!
Anyone else seen this?  Any ideas?  Help!!!  I don't want to role back to
before the updates, but I may have to.

This is not a Malware problem - I have anti-malware programs running and have
searched the computer regularly!

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7.  I suggest that
you..,

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

2. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

3. Reinstall IE7 per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install,
and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

This has stopped as a problem - for no apparent reason!

maybe Microsoft did a fix in an update?  I don't know, but I didn't do
anything.
