IE 7 Bug with Printer Margins

(sorry if this is a repost, as the first time this was posted didn't appear
to work)

I can't test this on another machine, but there appears to be a bug with
Internet Explorer 7 with regard to printer margins having a decimal value of
less than .1. If people can try this, and let me know that it's not just me.
I'm running IE 7.0.5730.11 on Windows XP.

Try the following margins (if your printer supports) and let me know what it
saves them as. Click "Ok" then re-open the printer setup dialog to see what
the value is.

For me:

1.093 goes to 1.93
0.06 goes to 0.6
1.193 stays the same
7.031 goes to 7.31

Etc etc. I think you get the idea. Any value with a decimal value of .0??
will save as .?? ...

Very frustrating when I want to print labels from a label printer,with
margins of 0.06!

I get the following:

1.93 instead of 1.093
0.25 instead of 0.06
1.193 same
7.31 instead of 7.31

If you want to set margins in millimeters instead of inches, you must change
the Regional and Language Options in Windows Control Panel.

Thanks, that lets me set the printer margin to 3mm without it saving it as
something else - but do you not agree that this is a Bug with IE 7 and it
should be fixed?

Your results below confirm that it is not an isolated issue with my setup.
IE 7 does not appear to be able save any printer margin with a value of
xxx.0xx - such as:

1.05
2.09
4.01
0.05

etc

And yet it manages fine to save the following:

1.15
2.39
4.11
0.25

etc.

Have you tried this on various documents to determine it is an IE bug?

Hi Gistcheckin

Yes, I have tried multiple websites with multiple printers. Just try it!
Go to any web page in IE 7. Go to "Page Setup". Change the left margin (or
any margin) to 3.05. Click "OK". Go back into "Page Setup".

What does the left margin (or what ever margin you changed) say now?

Answer: 3.5

How can this not be a bug with IE 7?

Admittedly it does not hold settings. No matter what I put in, or where, the
setting changes when reopening Page Setup. If margins cannot be so, there
should be a warning message regarding such.

If you enter in a value too low for the printer, it automatically corrects
it, which is great.

The problem I am referring too, which I have repeated below, is when the
setting is saved, the decimal number is completely changed but only if the
value after the decimal point begins with a 0.

Sorry for not clear in my previous posts, but if your printer, for example,
has a minimum left margin of 2 inches, the following will happen:

Changing it to 2.15 will save it as 2.15 (good)
Changing it to 2.00 will save it as 2 (good)
Changing it to 2.05 will save it as 2.5 (NOT good)
Changing it to 2.07 will save it as 2.7 (NOT good)
Changing it to 2.09 will save it as 2.9 (NOT good)
Changing it to 3.03 will save it as 3.3 (NOT good)
Changing it to 3.33 will save it as 3.33 (good)

Etc etc etc ...

Anyway, thanks for being receptive. Where is the correct place to submit
bug reports on IE 7?

Not confirmed here with mm default units. The Print Setup dialogue will not
accept more than two decimal places; subsequent ones are truncated (not
rounded). Still, that's pretty academic (0.01mm is only 0.4 thousandths of
an inch).

Is the behaviour the same whichever printer you select?

Tried and confirmed. Any side will not go below 0.170 and decimals with .0x will drop the zero(es) and move the first non-zero integer right behind the decimal.

This shows how a document is set up for print:

"We can see that we specified that the left margin and right margin should
be 3 centimeters. Notice that we did not assign these properties in the
@media rules for the screen media type or the shared screen and print media
rules. This means that the margins will only be seen when the document is
printed.
In Step 2, we associate the style sheet with our document, and in Step 3 we
load the document into Microsoft Internet Explorer.

As you can see in Step 3, there is no hint of a margin. This is because we
did not specify any value for the margins for the screen media type in Step
1.

In Step 4, we print the document and the margins appear; this is because we
specified margins for the print media type in Step 1"
