I have a similar problem. A couple of websites that I use the most are
severely compromised. They don't display important features, gridlines are
missing, etc... One really looks like a shell of a website.
I tried another browser and get the same thing. Consequently, I think it is
Vista. do you use Vista or XP?

More explicitly, that refers to these 3 files:
res://ieframe.dll/aboutXP.dlg
That has a .png at the top:
res://ieframe.dll/ielogodl.png
and a .gif at the bottom:
res://ieframe.dll/flag.gif

My guess would be that you have installed some other software dealing with
image files which has overridden and corrupted the default images file type
associations. Or, if you had some installed, say on a trial, and the trial
had expired or was removed uncleanly it would also explain your symptom.
One way to try restoring the default image file type associations
is to Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)
regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll
Note that this changes the file type associations for more than just the
above two file extensions. So, if you do have other software which
supports other ones which you want to keep using you might have
to find out how to reinitialize or customize it. Otherwise, don't use
that command but instead analyse your broken file types one at a time.
Good luck

Thanks for the response. I tried re associating the gif file extension but no
luck. I can still not see any gif extensions via the web browser. I think
your comment about another program may be correct however I cannot see how to
correct this. I am starting to think I may have to re install XP.
I tried your advice re regsvr32 hower I could the message that it couldn't
be found.
