Hello,
We have just bought a Gateway GT5404 with Windows Vista.. and we
are COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED. And I need to ask the advice of this community.
1 We have 2 websites that we own, neither of which we can go to, because IE
startsand the progress bar gets about 1.4 of the way and stops. I have put
both in the "allow" box in security, but it will not let them.
2 Windows Vista will not allow neither of our 2 printers to install, we have
tried everything that Lexmark has suggested, to no avail. A box appeaers
after install and says "cannot communicate with printer contact Lexmark.

If I was asked today to give feedback on Gateway and Windows Vista, I would
have to say crappy, crappy, crappy, because nothing works with it and it is
too difficult to make programs work.
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how we can go to our own
websites, and how to install our printers?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Courtney

Do you have any firewall or anti virus software possibly blocking access to
the web sites? Can you get to other web sites?

As suggested, try Firefox.

Re. Printer -  ensure that the drivers for the printers are Vista compatible.
A lot of the problems with hardware installation on Vista, arises from
driver compatibility.

HP? You must be joking! I have a DX2200, not even a year old, which had the
mother board replaced and today I replaced the hard drive...

Thank you all for responding,
As far as visiting other websites we have no problem going anywhere else,
except our 2 owned websites.
As far as the printers, we have been in contact with Lexmark and have done
everything that they have recommended, they(Lexmark) suggested uninstalling
and -downloading the new driver that is Vista compatible(didn't work) then we
tried the (Vistaclean)  that Lexmark recommended and we ran it, and
re-installed the printers(one a at time) and that didn't work.

My husband can go to our websites on his work computer and that work computer
has so many firewalls in place that it realy surprises me that he can view
them at work.

Our Gateway came with "Mcafee" and "Windows Defender"  and we installed
"Nortons" after we got it. Now knowing that these are 2 completely different
OP systems, but we had NO problem going to our websites on our old computer,
with the same  AV software.

Perhaps this additional information will be helpful in helping us to correct
this problem.
Again, Thank you for your help.

What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Start Without
Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).
