i receive the message "Your current security settings do not allow for this
file to be downloaded" on the microsoft web site.  I'm trying to download a
system update from microsoft download site.

The error occurs when I try to run the genuine advantage check file.

I was able to download and install the GA file using an alternative browser,
but still not able to download the system file.

I have uninstalled my firewall (zone alarm), added the site to my trusted
zone, reduced all my security settings to the lowest possible setting,
deleted temp. internet files and cookes, and ran a registry cleaner to get
rid of the leftovers from zonealarm, but still getting the same message.

Running Windows XP pro.  I am the only user and have administrator privileges.

I have run the Windows Genuine Advantage tool before.  Why am I being asked
to run it again and why can't I download it using IE 7.

Thanks

Patti

That did the trick.  Was able to download and install the file.  Thanks so
much.

Now can someone tell me why I have to keep running the Genuine Advantage
Check.  Have done it about 4 times now on this PC.  Doesn't it remember info
for the next download?

In between validations, you may have installed another Microsoft software
application such as Office.  The validation process would then be in effect
to validate the office version/copy.

WGA FAQ:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0ERC

Q: Is genuine Windows validation a one-time process?

A: We've designed validation to be as easy as possible. Validation itself
just takes a moment. The lengthiest part of the process is downloading the
ActiveX control that performs validation. The ActiveX control is downloaded
on the first validation and when a new version is available from Microsoft.
So, while it's not a one-time process, it is still quick and easy.

I am getting this same message when I try to open a doc attachment on window
vista. I'm not very good with computers so I have no idea how to fix it. I
tried to ask this as a new question but now this thing won't let me do that.
