IE7 losing login credentials

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. I noticed it after the round
of updates at the start of June but a search on the KB and the forums doesn't
seem to locate any fixes or reports.

Note: I'm using an up-to-date XP Pro/SP2 on a Core2Duo.

If I open IE7 and login to a website that requires authentication, I'm able
to access the site fine. I then either
 a) Right click on a link and open in a new tab
 b) Right click on a link and open in a new window
and the window/tab opens fine and displays what I would expect.

However if I then close this new window/tab and attempt to follow another
link from my original window/tab, my login credentials have been lost and I'm
presented with website login page and/or a warning that I'm not logged in.

I can work-around the issue by performing the above steps, but closing the
original window/tab instead of the new one, after which I can open/close
windows/tabs to my hearts content, but it's getting on my nerves when I
forget to do that.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Can anyone point me to a fix (in case I've not hit the magic search term).

Thanks

What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Start Without
Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).

Thanks for your reply.

I did as you suggested and the strange behaviour did disappear.
I thought it would then be a simple case of disabling addons until the
culprit was identified, but I find that with all the listed addons disabled
(via Tools -> Manage Addons), the strange behaviour continues.

Then there's probably some piece of malware that managed to get on your
computer.

Do a thorough check for malware following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author.  See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything.  Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along.  Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
