As above, how do you get Autocomplete to work!

All the options are ticked under Autocomplete option, but the stupid thing
doesnt ask if I want to save any passwords. It never has.

I've checked Google/Yahoo, but I cant see anything on how to fix it for IE
7.

I did find something about going here.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\Storage2

The storage service, is started and running.

But that doesnt help, since the Storage2 key isnt on here.

Or was IE 7 made, not to save passwords, or something??

Because its doing a good job of it!

Any info appreciated

Thanx

Hi,
Sorry, your post seems to have been overlooked.

Try this easy procedure first. Disable all autocomplete options. Close and
re-open IE. Clear forms, clear passwords, clear the IE history. Restart the
computer. Re-enable autocomplete options.

Next, see if this information helps:
Protected Storage - Save Password issues:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ProtectedStorage.htm

Hope this helps,

Ok well I ran IE clear the autocomplete options, closed IE opened it again.
Rebooted.

Stopped and started Protected Storage.

Then rebooted. Still no go.

None of those links on that ProtectedStorage site
apply to me.

BUT only the first one. But this applies to 2K, and the file it says to
unregister/register (RSABase.dll isnt in XP).

And the link for XP Home, I tried previously, this didnt work either.

Password is OK in OE. It stays  put.

When I went here in the registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider

To delete the key under it, I had to give myself permission to delete it.

It doesnt say anywhere here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=885180
that you have to add yourself / use permissions to delete this key.

Could it be a permission prob why I cant save any passwords in IE?

Ok well I've just found something out.

The other PC here with XP SP2 and updated
works. I just tried a site put in the username/pw
in and it brought up the prompt asking if I wanted
to save the password.

Exactly what this one doesnt do.

Does it sound like a file needs to re-registered somewhere?

Since Autocomplete works on the other PC but not this one??

If so, what file??

Hi,
Did you click on Delete Autocomplete history after disabling Autocomplete?
My instructions on that were a little off- I was thinking in IE6 terms.

This computer is running XP SP2, right? Did you install IE7 on this machine
or did it come preinstalled? In other words, do you have the option to
uninstall/reinstall IE7?

I installed IE 7, it wasnt preinstalled.

Correct running XP SP2, and up to date
with patches etc.

Its got the option to remove yup.

The IE 7 install file is still on the hdd.

Would it hurt if I just reinstalled IE 7?

The next thing I tried was I reset IE's settings, then the prompt DID come
up asking if I wanted to save the password.

It did work for the first site I tested, but then didnt work for another
site I tried. (should the prompt come up everytime tho)?? Or just once?

Even tho, I can save the same username/pw in Firefox.

Hmm it seems to working now for some reason.

The prompt came up on 3 sites out of 5.

Dont know, if this is because of the site / IE.

Because Firefox saves on all 5 sites.

Hi,
Many secure sites (banks, etc) don't allow password caching, so you won't
get a prompt. Could that be the case? For a while, about a year ago, I
noticed that Mozilla and Firefox would save passwords that IE wouldn't save.
Maybe that's happening for you?

You might try installing and running IE PassView (NirSoft
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/internet_explorer_password.html
Delete references to / login info for the sites which don't prompt you to
save login data.

Yup I know about banks they definitely wont save pw's.

Most of the sites are forum sites I go to.

I tried that IEPass view, once there was nothing to view.

I'll try it again now, since there SHOULD be something
to look at!

Hmm just tried that program, tried one of the sites that I DID save the
username/pw on, it worked ok.

BUT when I ran the program, it came up with nothing??

Should whatever appear when you run it??

Its completely blank.
