Windows version?
Had you added the Gmail page to Trust Sites zone? (Just a question, not a
recommendation to do so.)

To turn off the warning, on the Advanced tab of Internet Properties (IE7 >
Tools > Internet Options), uncheck "Warn about certificate address
mismatch".

It's also possible that some the address of some item that Gmail wants to
display is in his Trusted zone. For example amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, and
amazon.fr are all in my Trusted zone and if I go to a normal (non-Trusted)
page that pulls information from one of those, I'll get that "secure and
non-secure items" warning.
