Cursor freezes each time I install IE7

Trend Micro scans keep telling me that I am at risk unless I install IE7.
Problem is that I have installed 3 different times and each time, the cursor
freezes and any screen movement consists of frozen jerky movements which slow
down the process to an unacceptable level. When I go back to IE 6 I am fine.
It simply does not work for me and I have XP Professional SP 2 as my OS.  It
became so annoying that I hid the notifications for this on the microsoft
update site and am now receiving warnings that I have hidden important
updates, combined with TM continually telling me I should upgrade to it.
When I unhide, it is simply IE7 wanting me to reinstall.   Why do I need IE7?
Why does it not operate smoothly and efficiently?  Please advise.

Did you install IE 7 by following these directions /exactly/:
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install

and by downloading the IE 7 installer from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

and installing directly from your hard disk, rather than installing
through Microsoft Update?

If not, you may have a damaged installation of Internet Explorer 7. In
this event you'll want to uninstall IE 7 (which returns you to IE 6) by
following these directions /exactly/
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

and then re-install IE 7 as above.

Do you have the same experience with IE 7 when you run it without add-ons?

[In XP: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons)

or:

right-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop and select Start
Without Add-ons]

If so, enable add-ons one at a time until you find the add-on that is
causing your problem. Remove that add-on and replace it with a version
(from the publisher) that supports IE 7.

Any improvement after resetting IE 7 to its defaults?

[Tools  > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset Internet Explorer
settings > Reset button > close IE 7 and restart it]

Have you thoroughly scanned your system for malicious software with
/several/ of the better online scanners (Kaspersky, Eset, Trend Micro,
Panda, Sophos, Symantec etc.) and, if necessary, submitted a HiJack This
log to one of the expert web sites that analyze these logs?

Leonard,
I appreciate the quick response, however, I researched this site prior to
posting my question and this is your canned generic answer that I have seen
on most posts that complain about the ineffectiveness of IE7.  Instructions
are helpful but it does not answer my question.  So, respectfully, again I
ask...do I really need IE7 (for security or other purposes) and if so, why?

Hello,

let me post my thoughts:
I say that Internet Explorer 7 works great for me. It really does.
Therefore, I do not understand anybody who complains about any
ineffectiveness of a product that functions as it should function in every
case for me.
I do not 'need' IE 7. I must have it because I wanted to have it. So I
installed it on my XP machines and I'm using it with Vista. You can always
ask why you need something, but in this case, I want it because it *is*
great. It is more secure, easier to use, has more functions and looks better
than IE 6. If you haven't seen these facts until now, I must say that you
don't need IE 7. Microsoft, as you can see with Windows, knows that IE 7 is
more secure and therefore better for Windows users, and so Windows tells you
that it is an important update. And so does TrendMicro. Both know that it's
important.
There are some users who complain about Microsoft shipping unsecure or
half-ready software, and on the other hand do not install security updates,
new products that are more up to date. The error you are facing might be
some little error, even not necessarily in IE 7 itself, but might be a
compatibility issue between drivers, software and IE 7. And please give the
helpful instructions a chance.

Greetings,
P. Di Stolfo

Thank you...that's a pretty good answer and at least provides hope that it
works well for some.  :-)

Scarlet,
Many of us had issues prior to the public release of IE7.  We weathered it.
And, you actually do like it much better than you did IE6.

As for the generic answers, they're usually the right answers for the
newcomers to IE7.

Open Tools>Internet Options>General Tab
Click on Settings under Browsing History
Click on View Objects
Click on View and select Details
Are any listed as damaged?  Right click and remove them.  Do any show a
black shield with a Yellow Exclamation Mark?  Right click and remove them as
well.  Reboot your system

Have you looked in Event Viewer - Application Log or System Log for Hung App
Errors - Event ID #'s are useful in tracking down Resolutions

Good luck!

You don't 'need' IE 7 just as you don't 'need' a computer. If you are
interested in your security and privacy you'll 'wan't' a browser that is
more secure, and IE 7 is considerably more secure than IE 6. But it's
not the only browser that's more secure than IE 6. You'll also want IE 7
for web sites that don't work properly with other browsers. For that
reason alone you should install IE 7. Nobody's telling you to use it all
the time or to love it.

You may have had one or more horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install(s) of IE7.
I suggest that you..,

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

2. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

3. Reinstall IE7 per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install,
and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.
