Not a so new question but still having same trouble with Explorer 7. When
attempting to access www.gamesville.com site I get the forllowing message.
"windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher. I
have gone into options and change settings to prompt me for active -x
controls. I have been on the phone five times with Toshiba support and am
told it is a Microsoft problem. I have called Microsoft and been told since
it is EOM it is Toshiba's problem or for thye kindly fee of $59 Uncle Bill
will talk to me. I am tired of the run around from both Toshiba and the lousy
support from Microsoft. Yes I have un-install 7 and gone back to 6 and still
the same trouble. I have removed my firewall and about every thingelse
humanly possible. This started about June 20 for some strange reason. I never
had a problem accessing thsi site before.
Thank you any help would be nice
Hi Indyguy,
Initially when I whent to the site it would not load, but after a second try
it did. There are dns errors for the site
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=www.gamesville.com
and these may have been the cause of MY problem with the site in IE7.
Usually when IE7 blocks the installation of an ActiveX control it will
prompt "Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the
publisher. Are you sure you want to install this control" (or words to that
effect) and there is an option to continue with the ActiveX control
installation. Try again and see if there is an option to install anyway.
Apart from that, most games sites are powered by java applets and not
ActiveX.(I think that the error message you are receiving is for a java
applet and not an ActiveX control) Check your security settings for Java
Applets (Security settings tab, Internet Zone) or equally place the site in
your trusted zones. The SiteAdvisor report for this is favourable though you
must satisfy yourself as to the safety of placing the site in your Trusted
Zones list.I see from the dns report that they are running on a linux
server, so it is no wonder that it is not supported or endorsed by MS.
In the long run it is up to a web site to design their sites to be presented
to a target browser platform. IE has a large corporate base and so I imagine
that catering for gaming sites, is not high on the priority list.
I hope this gets you gaming. Remember the only free cheese is in a trap.
This is a public NG and the support and comments provided here are made by
volunteers and enthusiasts.
Regards.
