I was running Internet Explorer 7.0 with no issues Then the other day I had
to re install windows XP long story but I finally got back to my original
spot with all the updates installed. But now I had Internet Explorer 6.0. I
thought that it would be know trouble to re install IE 7.0 but I was wrong.
I keep getting error 0x5 and the system has to reboot and Internet explorer
6.0 is back part of the log file is below. I have checked your message area
and really have found no direct solution. I Have Norton Internet Security
2006 with all updates Running on machine but I have turned it off and tried
to intall did not help, I also tried downloading the file to my desktop and
then booted into windows safe mode with networking and tried to install
thinking norton's was causing a problem some where along the line, but that
did not help. I have read about some small programs you can download which
will check registry entrees that are preventing writing to, but I think that
is extreme. I have tried several place at your web site to get answer with
out much success. I have Firefox the newest version which runs without no
problems. Also I have run virus scans on line along with Adware to make sure
no spyware issue or viruses. Everything on computer is up to date and I have
Linksys router for hardware firewall.
Below is the log file I am getting any help would be much appreciated.
PS since I tried to install internet Explorer 7.0 and then the program
tried to roll back to 6.0 , IE will not run properly It will open up but if
you click a favorite it crashes locks up. Also I followed the
troubleshooting link once I had rebooted for troubleshooting IE7 but none of
these solutions seem to be the problem.

is installed:

Did you consult the KB article above and follow its recommendations when you
"reinstalled" WinXP?

Gistcheckin - 18 Jul 2007 22:46 GMT
I believe you need IE6 SP2 in order to install IE7 on XP
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/ie/ie7/about/sysreqs/default.mspx
You can order an SP2 Cd from this site if you can't get into Windows Updates
to download
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx
