Okay -- here's a doosey for the experts since nobody at HP or MS Support can
give me any help.  Have a new (like 2 months old) medica center PC that is
only used for the internet, quicken and MS Office 2007.  IE was working great
with my IP provider (Roadrunner) and I was off the computer for 2 days.  Now
IE will not work and the only browser that it will opens is msn.com - which I
never use.

Here's the kicker - I can receive and send e-mail via MS Outlook, but can
use anything else with IE.  Can Ping ipconfig setting all day, but can't get
on internet with the new crummy IE.  Only solution that I have received from
HP and MS is to to a system recovery - which does not correct the problem.
Have ran every diagnostic there is on this crappy OS and I finally got a
"AppCompat" log which means nothing.

So, when is Microsoft going to fix this bug wth IE?  And the system will not
ping Yahoo, CNN, Netcape or any other search engine.  Spent alot of money on
a system with a crappy OS - what the fix??

What version of Windows?
What version of IE?
How do you connect, dialup, DSL, cable or satellite?

What happens when you try to connect to http://www.fjsmjs.com ?

OK, forget the questions about Windows and IE versions, I usually don't read
subjects and you didn't mention Vista in the body of the message.

How do you connect, dialup, DSL, or cable?

What happens when you try to connect to http://www.fjsmjs.com ?

That's a symptom of a misconfigured firewall or IPSec filtering.

Looks like user error to me...  <eg>

> And the system will not  ping Yahoo, CNN, Netcape or any other search engine.

Details?   Many sites block  ICMP  packets these days so the only thing
that you can expect to "work" reliably about  ping  is seeing it do a DNS
lookup successfully.

Robert: Ireally do not think Microsoft gives a damm: the times the IE just
freezes or does not load is terrible. I see it as a car with a wonky Huge
Vista Engine and a gear box (Internet Explorer) that is only fit to use with
a 50cc motor scooter. It is so useless and you do not know what it is gonna
do from one day to the next. I contacted Microsoft about a number of problems
to do with Vista and Internet Explorer and after numerous attempts I got a
'Reply' wherein they said that they could not help me as I was in Australia
and the system was different and gave me an address to contact; guess what,
Explorer said it had an error and could not connect so
I reset and after 3 attempts got my message though (I think) and I am now
waiting for a reply. A laugh I am sure will be forth coming because I am
coming to believe that The Vista programme has got away from them and all
they can do is tweek it and hope it works.
I do wonder how Microsoft has been able to get away with producing such a
bad product, and selling it with mis-information as to its quality without
being sued or prosecuted by official sourcers.
My belief now is that it will never work properly.
