IE7 crashes Google Calendar

I used the "Google Embeddable Calendar Helper" to embed a calendar on my
website.  It worked fine for months.  Suddenly, on 7/6/07, I began getting
complaints from users that going to my webpage with the calendar is causing
IE7 to
crash (what we used to call a "GPF" -- that message that says something like
"Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close this program").
Google's own admin tools that generate HTML for embedding the calendar on a
web page also crash when the calendar itself starts to display.

Google support says this is a problem caused by a recent Microsoft update.

I asked several people to test loading the page and report what happened.
Everyone using IE7 reported that it would crash.  One IE6 user reported back
- no problems.  Two Mozilla Foxfire users reported back - no problems.

Is anyone else experiencing problems like this?  Any ideas of what to do to
fix it?  I can post the iframe code generated by Google's tool if that helps.

Here's the page with the calendar that crashes IE7 (for those who dare load
it):

I bit and yes it crashes.  This is what I found in Event Viewer:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16473, time stamp
0x46296d48, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000,
exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x4e18020f, process id 0x738,
application start time 0x01c7c98f9650349b.

Try starting without add-ons - it may be flash control but in the above,
faulting module unknown.

Does it still happen?

Good suggestion.  Interesting results:  I started IE7 without add-ons, and it
seemed to work OK.  So I started IE7 normally, and began trying disabling
different combinations of add-ons, and got it to work when I disabled both
"CBrowserHelperObject Object" from Dell Inc. (BAE.dll) PLUS another add-on
named "Research" with no other info provided.

However, I then discovered that the calendar page worked OK the FIRST time I
went to that page after disabling those 2 add-ons, but then crashed IE7 if I
navigated to another page and then returned to the calendar.

Discouraged, I restarted IE7 without add-ons again.  First try, the calendar
page displayed fine.  Navigate to another page & then back to calendar:
Crash  :-(

So, it appears that add-ons are at least RELATED to the problem, but there's
probably more to it than that.  Besides, I can hardly expect people who go to
my site to be willing to try changing their browser settings just so they can
view my calendar.

So I guess it's not an update from Microsoft after all.

"Google support says this is a problem caused by a recent Microsoft update."

If that's really true, ask them which specific update caused the
problem, then uninstall the update. Problem solved.

Since I knew the calendar page was working up to a few days before 7/6/07, I
already tried restoring my system to a point when I knew the calendar page
worked.  That didn't help, which probably demonstates that the problem isn't
with a Microsoft update.

Meanwhile, I'm stuck in the middle of 2 giants pointing fingers at each
other and saying, "Don't look at me.  It's his fault."

This worked
Tools>Internet Options>Advanced Tab
Uncheck Enable Third-Party Browser Extensions
Click Apply
Click Ok

I could view your page without crashing when I disabled that feature.

Hmm.  That didn't work for me.  Did you also try navigating to some other
page, and then returning to the calendar?

BTW, I just changed that page to start in AGENDA view rather than MONTH
view, since it doesn't crash immediately in that mode.  Unfortunately, even
in AGENDA view, if I use the forward & backward controls on the calendar to
move to a different date range, it crashes after a few tries.

Another new discovery:  I took a different Google calendar with almost no
events loaded into it, and embedded it onto a new page (albeit, one that had
most of the same code as the "real" page with the "real" calendar).  That
simple calendar does NOT cause IE7 to crash.  I just wrote back to Google
Support, asking if it's possible that my "real" calendar file(s) is
corrupted, and if that might be the culprit.  (If it is, I hope they have
some way to recover all the events on it!)

I clicked links from left index, I clicked links contained within the
calendar, I clicked colorado links and left the page then opened my favorites
and clicked several links.  Each time I returned to the Calendar page, it did
not crash.

What other toolbars do you use?

I use the Google toolbar.  Other than that, just the Status Bar and Links.  I
don't display the Menu Bar.

Try disabling the Google Add-on
Have you looked in Event Viewer Applications Log to see what error has been
generated when you crash?

Right click on My Computer and select Manage
This brings up Event Viewer
Click the + next to Event Viewer to expand the menu
Click on Application Log and look for the Crash Error report

Actually, the Google toolbar was disabled when I changed the option to not
allow 3rd party browser extensions.

Here are the details from the last 2 crashes (using the Event Viewer

I tried the link to read what Microsoft's site had to say about these
errors, but didn't spot anything obvious that seemed to apply to my case.
Not that I really understand what I'm looking for.

The above is what I got but for some reason Google applications have always
caused me problems.

I re-enabled third-party browser extensions on my unit and browsed the
calendar page again today.  This time it did not crash.
I use IE and no other toolbars.

Are you developing your website with Frontpage?  An old doc re: MSFPnav1h
