I assume you're running WinXP SP2.

When did you install IE7 (approximate date)?  Is "Windows Internet Explorer
7" still listed in Add/Remove Programs?

Assuming IE7 is still installed, open C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
<=this folder, right-click on IEXPLORE.EXE, select Properties, select
Version (tab) and tell us what version is displayed here (e.g.,
7.0.6000.16473).

Have you used a Registry cleaner (e.g., CCleaner; EasyCleaner; Registry
Mechanic) or an "uninstaller" utility (e.g., Ashampoo Uninstaller) or have
you run the Windows Live Safety Center's Cleanup or Full Service scan since
you installed IE7?

Have you attempted to overinstall IE7 due to some problems?  Have you done a
Repair Install  of Windows since you installed IE7?

The above notwithstanding, you may want to open a free Support Incident
about this.  Start here:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&ln=en-us&x=14&y=12&gprid=8722

[We've run into this problem only twice before, at least in this newsgroup:

frm/thread/616e79b014001bf2/21e4e87385ba6faa

Running WinXP SP@
looking at the %windir%\ie7.log looked like 10/2006
If I remember ie7 was a yahoo suggested update, and I did not stop
anti-virus or anti-spyware check.
IE on desk top    no properties
2 IE's in /Program Files
IEXPLORE File version 7.0.6000.16473
iexplore(2) File version 7.0.6000.16441
1 IE in /Windows
iexplore File version 6.0.2900.2180
Have never used a Registry cleaner.
Only thing i done to IE7 is reset it.
Have never done anything to Windows.
Can I just download a new ver. of IE7 then uninstall it?
Thanks for the help

You've had IE7 installed since Oct-06 (apparently): Has IE7 always behaved
this way (i.e., since you installed it) or is this sudden, new behavior?

> 2 IE's in /Program Files
> IEXPLORE File version 7.0.6000.16473
> iexplore(2) File version 7.0.6000.16441

You should not have 2 versions of IEXPLORE.EXE in C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer, although both of yours are valid IE versions.  (Each version
corresponds to a recent Cumulative Security Update for IE7, but installing
the most recent update should have removed the IE7 version associated with
the earlier update.)

The fact that you originally installed the Yahoo-customized version
(apparently) /may/ have something to do with it, but I can't tell you for
sure.

If the various methods of uninstalling IE7 details in 927177
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177) don't help, your only other options
are (1) opeing a free Support Incident (see previous reply); (2) doing a
Repair Install (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917964); or (3)
formatting & reinstalling Windows.

[No, I don't think you'll be able to overinstall IE7.]

Best of luck.
