For example, when I'm on Craigslist and I click on an ad, then click back to
the list of ads, the ads I've previously viewed are a different color than
those I've not viewed. IE suddenly  stopped doing that. I went to
tools/internetoptions/advanced and hit "reset" but that didn't fix the
problem.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks!

Hi,
Assuming Windows XP...
You probably have corruption in the History folder or its index.dat file.
The usual fix is to delete the History folder and allow Windows to create a
new one.

Easy method #1- safe and easy. May or may not work.
CCleaner from www.ccleaner.com Check the boxes to clear History and
index.dat files.

Easy method #2:
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm can usually delete
the History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will be created
when you restart.

Or the History folder can be deleted manually.
The procedure [Windows XP]
Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (startup in safe mode.) Make sure that you can
see hidden and system files (Folder Options> View) then delete the affected
History folder from Windows Explorer. It will be at [C:\Documents and
Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\History] Restart the computer.

Hope this helps,

Thanks. I tried ccleaner. It didn't work. I tried installing a new version of
ie. That didn't work either. I tried looking for the history folder, but I'm
running Vista--you know, the version where you can't find diddly.
Any other suggestions (other than buying a mac?)

nevermind. I stumbled across PurgeIE. Ran it and it worked like a charm. My
previously viewed links are once again highlighted!

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure what to recommend when the problem occurs
in Vista.
