Thankyou, Donald.
One of the many examples is on the page:
http://www.space.com/interplayer/sts122/index.html where it says: Space
Station Construction - STS-122
The video won't play. I don't see any error messages anywhere. I am using
IE7 on a fairly new Dell PC. It worked on IE7 up until three weeks ago so it
must be my fault in some way. I've downloaded the latest Flash and Shockwave
add-ons.
Stumped.

Hi,
I tested the site you posted in IE6, IE7, and Firefox. No problems
encountered here viewing the Flash Video(.flv files), in any of the
Browsers. When you visit the site you posted the link for:
http://www.space.com/interplayer/sts122/index.html
The Player on that page is preloaded with a small Flash file called
"flvplayer-space-noad.swf" coming from this location:
http://www.livescience.com/php/video/flvplayer-space.swf
It should be just a black screen in the Player with the words "click to
play..." centered in the Player. You must then select a Video from the
Slider menu list (below the Player) to play that Video in the Player. For
instance if you click on the first Video in the Slider menu called "ESA's
new science laboratory", the page is refreshed to the following address:
http://www.space.com/interplayer/sts122/index.html?movie=01_122_Columbus&page=1
and the Video entitled "01_122_Columbus.flv" should be displayed in the
Player coming from the following location:
http://www.livescience.com/php/video/flvplayer-space-noad.swf?file=http://images
2.space.com/media/01_122_Columbus.flv
The only way I'm remotely able to reproduce the problem you describe in your
original post is to disable the Flash Player ActiveX control in Manage
Add-ons entitled "Shockwave Flash Object". Disabling this add-on will
produce a "red X icon" in the upper left corner of the Player on that site.
Is this red X icon the one you are seeing in the player at that site? If
so, make sure the Flash Player ActiveX control is enabled in the Browser:
Tools||Manage Add-ons||Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer
Make sure "Shockwave Flash Object" is marked "enabled"
Good luck,
Donald Anadell

I see the process you are moving through. Logical.
What I get is a grey box with the usual icon in the upper left corner that
you'd get while a large photo was loading (red square, blue triangle, green
circle, all on a small white square). If I place either of the URLs you
listed in your message, into the address bar I get an entire screen, blank,
with the same icon as previously mentioned, in the corner. Maybe this will
help: when I right-click on where the video should be, in the Properties, I
get info about the html page, with "Connection: Not Encrypted" and "Address:
http://www.space.com/interplayer/sts122/index.html" shown along with the
usual stuff. This makes me think the browser is acting up.
I do appreciate all this effort, Don.

Oh, yes. The Shockwave Flash Object is enabled and listed as Flash9e.ocx

Yes, that is weird:o)
If Videos on YouTube are working then you can probably rule out the Flash
Player as being the cause of this anomaly. If you have any Ad blocking
software installed, try disabling it to see if there is any difference in
the behavior. Otherwise I'm afraid I'm out of ideas right now.
Good luck,
Donald Anadell

Just when all seemed hopeless.........I went to Google Videos help site.
They suggested uninstalling the Flash plug-in using the Adobe uninstaller on
the Adobe site, then re-installing the plug-in. It corrected the problem.
Thanks for your attention. It's good to feel someone else is working with
you on these perplexing problems.
