2- Reset IE 7 to its original configuration. If the problem no longer
occurs, one (or more) incorrect configuration settings was causing the
problem.

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > under Reset Internet Explorer
Settings, click Reset.

Thanks Leonard,

Since the last update push from Microsoft, my IE7 will not operate with the
Microsoft Update site (ActiveX control) without freezing at some point
initially or during selection of updates for download.  Freeze requires
process termination at Windows Task Manager.  Every other site works fine,
with occasional exceptions.

So I cannot download any more updates.

I have tried reinstallation of IE7, rollback to earlier restore points, and
so forth.  No luck.
