I used to be able to access American Airlines website epays.aa.com from my
personal laptop computer but for some reason I can't access it any more. I
can however access it from any company computer or even a friend's personal
laptop. Whenever I go to that particular website I get an "Internet Explorer
cannot display the webpage." screen stating that the most likely causes are:
*You are not connected to the Internet (Not likely)
*The website is encountering problems (Couldn't be because I can access
it from other computers)
*There might be a typing error in the address (Couldn't be because it's
typed the same way it is on other computers)

It also says

1. "What you can try:"
Diagnose Connection Problems (Which I did, and all I got was "Cannot
communicate with epays.aa.com(144.9.229.254). Network Diagnostics pinged the
remote host but did not receive a response. Windows found a problem that
cannot be repaired automatically. Contact your Internet service provider or
network administrator for help or click here for information about things you
can try to help resolve the problem.")
2. More information (Which is a drop-down tab) which gives the following
information
This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:
       *Internet connectivity has been lost.
       *The website is temporarily unavailable
*The Domain Name Server(DNS) does not have a listing for the
website's       domain.
*The Domain Name Server(DNS) is not reachable.
*If this is an HTTPS(secure) address, click Tools, click Internet
Options, click Advanced. and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are
enabled under the security section.

Now I've done a variety of things to fix this, all to no avail. I contacted
American Airlines website technical support and after hours on both the
computer and phone, they are stumped. They suggested removing internet
toolbars, disabling and enabling pop-up blockers, clearing out all internet
temporary files, cookies, history files, passwords etc, fiddling around with
the SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0 and TSL 1.0 checkboxes in the Internet Options box under
IE Tools.

Basically I've done everything requested at this troubleshooting site
(http://helpdesk.jetnet.aa.com/knowbase/root/public/jn9085.htm ?) and more
and I can visit practically every other known page on the internet but I
can't even get the epays site to even show. My computer is currently running
the latest version of Sun Microsystems Java, Vista Home Premium and the
latest version of Internet Explorer.

I'm at wits end. Can someone help me?

Hi,
Have you:
1. Powered down modem, router, computer, etc for a few minutes?
2. Used the Reset IE Settings button in Internet Options> Advanced?
3. Checked for a HOSTS file?
To check the HOSTS file in Vista...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is
not hiding file extensions for known file types (Control Panel> Folder
Options> View) then check for a HOSTS file
at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If
there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in
front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS
file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.
Additional info at:
The Hosts File (Gorilla Design Studio): http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/
Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and
disable any third-party firewall, security suite, other security programs.
See if a third-party program is causing the problem.
If you aren't sure you've disabled a third-party firewall or security suite,
it may be necessary to uninstall it to test.

Are cookie settings too restrictive? Check cookie settings at Internet
Options> Privacy. Try a setting of Low or Accept All.

Try clearing the DNS Cache
Start> Run> cmd [enter]
ipconfig /flushdns
Then clear the Temporary Internet Files and restart the computer.

Hope this helps,
Don
