Java scripts cannot run on website

I installed Java SE 1.6 but there is a website that I still cannot seem to
run Java scripts in IE7.

For example: When I click on a SAVE button, the IE progress appears.  Then
after about 1 minute, I get the message "Page cannot be displayed".

When I tried on a diferent PC with IE7 and Java SE 1.6, there are no issues.
The only major difference I see is that this PC has msjava.dll but the PC
with the issue does not msjava.dll.

I thought installing Java SE 1.6 would automatically allow IE7 to run all
Java scripts.
Should I just copy msjava.dll and register?  I understand that msjava.dll is
an old DLL once distributed by MS.

Thanks, Bob

Windows version?  What website?  What are you attempting to Save?

I am running Windows XP.

The website requires a login so providing the website information does not
help much.  Basically after login, I can enter some information (i.e. name,
address) and click SAVE.  But on my PC, the IE progress appears and then
after about 1 minute, I get the message "Page cannot be displayed".

I did send a email indicated on the website but have not received a response
in almost a week.

Do you have Sun Java runtimes (jre) v1.6.0_04 installed and have all earlier
versions been uninstalled?

================================

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode?  To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:

2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using!

3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), (b)
all toolbars and (c) all third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds) and do NOT reinstall IE7, does this behavior persist?  If it does,
do NOT reinstall IE7.

4. Required reading IMHO before reinstalling IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO THE LETTER!

[And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.]

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
reinstalling IE7 to install any critical updates offered.  If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

I have Java SE version 1.6.0_03 installed.

C:\Documents and Settings\Bob>java -version
java version "1.6.0_03"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_03-b05, mixed mode, sharing)

I do have a copy of msjava.dll.  I was thinking of just registering it and
see what happens.
I do not really want to mess with my IE7.

v1.6.0_04 is the most recent and most secure version.  Discussed in
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=31784

Sun Java runtimes and JavaVM, though somewhat related, are not the same
thing.

The site http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm indicates my JavaScript is enabled.

With current Java SE version 1.6.0_03, I noticed the following:

1) In IE7 Add-Ons (Tools => Manage Add-ons => Add-ons that have been used by
Internet Explorer), I do not see "Web Browser Applet Control", which is the
file "c:/windows/system32/msjava.dll".

2) When checking the version of the ActiveX control/program that implements
Java (Tools => Internet Options => General tab => Browsing History Settings
button => View Objects button), I see three "Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0"
objects.  One has icon same as shown in
http://www.javatester.org/version.html and its properties show it is for
Netscape Navigator.  The other two icons has yellow shield with a black
exclamation mark.

Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

1. Download Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4

2. Select Windows Offline Installation | SAVE it to your desktop, do not RUN
it.

3. When the download is complete, close all browser windows and double-click
on the saved file to install the update. Be patient: It may take five (5)
minutes or more for the installation to complete.

4. Delete the downloaded installation file after completing the above
procedure and reboot if not prompted to do so.

5. Open Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs:

   * Uninstall anything that says Sun Java, Java JRE, or similar except
Java TM 6 Update 4 which you just installed.
   * Close Add/Remove Programs.

6. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Java <=this folder |
Delete any subfolders except the subfolder jre1.6.0_04 which was just
created by the installation above.

NB: Do NOT delete C:\Program Files\JavaVM <=this folder, if found!

After installing "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4", I still have
two "Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0" icons with yellow shield with a black
exclamation mark.  The date of these objects is today.  The third "Java
Runtime Environment 1.6.0" icon remains for Netscape and date remains
14Dec-2007.

"Add/Remove" programs has the following:
1) Java DB 10.2.2.0 => Existed prior to installing "Java Runtime Environment
(JRE) 6 Update 4"
2) Java (TM) SE Development Kit 6 => Existed prior to installing "Java
Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4"
3) Java (TM) 6 Update 4 => Created after installing "Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4"
I uninstalled "Java (TM) 6 Update 3".

":\Program Files\Java" has the following folders:
1) j2re1.4.2_03 => Existed prior to installing "Java Runtime Environment
(JRE) 6 Update 4"
2) jdk1.6.0_03 => Existed prior to installing "Java Runtime Environment
(JRE) 6 Update 4"
3) jre1.6.0_04 => Created after installing "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6
Update 4"
The folder "jre1.6.0_03" was automatically removed after I installed "Java
(TM) 6 Update 3".
The folder "C:\Program Files\JavaVM" never existed at any time.

Should I uninstall "Java (TM) 6 Update 4"?  Then manually remove the two
"Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0" icons with yellow shield with a black
exclamation if they still exist.  Then try to install "Java (TM) 6 Update 4"
again?

1. Do not uninstall Java (TM) 6 Update 4.

2a. Unless you're a programmer and use Java DB
(http://developers.sun.com/javadb/), uninstall it.

2b. Unless you're a programmer and use Java SE Development Kit 6
(http://java.sun.com/javase/), uninstall it.

3. Reboot.

4. Assuming you uninstalled Java DB (2b above) and Java SE Development Kit 6
(2c above), you may now delete any remaining subfolders of %system%\Program
Files\Java <=this folder, /except/ the folder named "jre1.6.0_04".

5. Don't worry about those "Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0 icons with yellow
shield/black exclamation".  [That icon doesn't mean what you think it means.

I do need to run some Java applications so I should definately should not
uninstall "Java SE Development Kit 6".
Even though I probably do not need "Java DB", I prefer to keep it.

I will try to uninstall "Java DB" and "Java SE Development Kit 6".

I found more information regarding differences between JRE (Java Runtime
Environment) J2SE (Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition) at
http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_diff.xml.
I only run applets, not write applets.
