loss of 'printscreen' copy and paste

For years I have had the ability to 'printscreen' anything which appears on
my screen and paste it into - paint, paintshop pro, wordpad, word, etc.  I
now find that (it seems) some websites have the ability to shut down this
function.  This seems to be particularity aimed at PaintShopPro.

Where would I find out where "they" (the websites) are accessing my computer
and turning off (or modifing) this function.  I just tried the"print screen"
and could get it to copy to 'paint', and 'wordpad' But NOT "PaintShop
Pro"(PSP)  - - at least untill I went to , say, 'paint' and selected 'Copy'
from the menu - Then I could use  'paste' in 'PSP' and have it work.

Thanks for your time and effort,

Web page owners have the right to protect their intellectual property.
One way for them to do this is to code the page so as to make it
inconvenient, difficult or impossible to copy certain content. It's not
done by 'accessing your computer and turning things off'.

First of all, It's My PC Screen the info is displayed on.  Second It's My
Bank Info I AM copying - most of the time a 'save page' don't work!!!

If I was to copy stuff and SELL it You'd be right - But I'm NOT!

Hi Daniel,

This is a bit off topic for this News Group.

What version of PSP are you using?  I have PSP7, PSP8, and PSP9 installed
here and I've never run into the problem you've described using any of these
versions in doing a PrintScreen and then doing a CTRL + V or clicking on
"Edit||Paste as new image" to bring the capture from the Clipboard into PSP.

Do you have a link to a site where this can be reproduced?

When the problem occurs, can you type clipbrd.exe into the Start||Run box
and view the capture in Clipboard?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your version of PSP?
Have you tried using a different Keyboard?

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

The problem seems to be between PSP and the clipboard.  I've been able to use
the ' Ctrl-V ' on the same captured screen and paste it into "paint" while
Not being able to paste it into PSP (7) (don't work with 9 either).  At times
PSP just says it cannot access the clipboard ?? I have on occasion been able
to "copy" the image from "Paint" to PSP - !?

I'll attempt to isolate which site gives me the trouble.

Thanks for your time and effort,

I've never seen PrtScn and then Paste not work, can  you point to a site
where you are seeing this behavior?

GEMB's private account

it utilizes "SiteCatalyst code version: H.1. Copyright 1997-2005 Omniture,
Inc."

I could not use PrtScn and use Ctrl-V (or the paste command) in PSP (paint
shop pro).

It does work for "MS Paint".  From there I can use paint's 'copy command'
and then use Ctrl-V to paste it into PSP.

This problem persists wehter I'm online or not and continues untill I reboot
the PC.

This seems to be particularity aimed at PaintShopPro.

[snip]
Running Dell P4, 1GB RAM, XP Home SP2. This just started a month or so
ago for me too, so I'm wondering if a Windows update caused this?

I am having this problem, and I am searching the web for help, which
is how I found this forum. For years I have also used prntScrn for
screenshots, very valuable for creating tutorials.

Even from my own screen and from my own computer, I cannot get it to
paste into PSP and I have several versions installed. I CAN however,
paste it into Word2002 but Word handles images differently and they
are not good at all!

The ClipBoard Viewer says that it "cannot display the information in
its current format, or there is not not enough memory etc and to shut
down some programs". I have shut down everything I could from Task
Manager and it still won't paste images into anything except Word
2002. Even though the ClipBrd.exe says it won't.

It will however, copy and paste text, of course. I did find a small
program that will do a screen capture, and it evidently bypasses the
Clipboard somehow, because Clipboard doesn't register anything after
using this proggie... BUT, it only saves them in .jpg form which is a
lossy format and so they are not usable for more serious images.

I have no answer unfortunately, but I did want to post that you are
not the only one with this problem. I am no pc newbie, this is the
first time I have every experienced this trouble even on W95.
Hopefully, someone won't tell us we're crazy, but maybe they will have
an answer for us.

Some people on other forums said they reinstalled their keyboards'
drivers, apparently this helped them. When I find the CD that came
with mine, I'll try that, too. I may try another keyboard altogether.

BTW, check and see if you have an F LOCK keyboard, because if you do
and you have the F Lock enabled, the PrntScrn key won't work. Disable
it and it will work, if that is your problem.

Good luck for us both,
Grammy

Check my reply to "Rob Giordano".  If you have an account with Sam's Club
this may be what is initiating the problem.

I've had some of the same problems that you describe - for me, however, they
go away when I reboot the PC.  - - - Still very Annoying !!!
