Not sure what setting changed, but each time I click on a link contained in
an email, IE7 open to my home page?  Any thoughts?

Do you have another browser installed?

=> Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode?  To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons;
or

2. Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer
(No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

=> Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Advanced settings (RIES)?

No copy of XP(SP2  or SP3) that I have seen on my customers , or my, comps
has the option to run IE7 with no-add ons by right-clicking on the desktop
Icon, OR by right-clicking on IE7 in Program files.

The ONLY option to do it is in Accessories> System tools.
I am getting sick and tired of the mistake continually being posted here!

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install(s) of IE7.  I suggest
that you...

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html [Only use the Command
%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe if you cannot uninstall via Add/Remove
Programs!]

NB: If WinXP SP3, see
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2008/05/05/ie-and-xpsp3.aspx

2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable.

3. Reinstall IE7 EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install <= Steps #1-8, #10 &
#11; take note of #12, then STOP!

NB: Use http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Or Direct Download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30
-081805b2f90b

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

4. IMMEDIATELY go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any
critical updates offered.  If a "Root Certificates" update is listed in the
Optional category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of
IE7's additional security.

I was replying to "McGoo".  Are you and McGoo that same poster?

The proof is in the pudding, my friend.

Free phone support for Internet Explorer 7/WinXP (installation issues only)
is available through 30 Jun-08, based on your locale. Customers must be
running WinXP in a non-domain environment.

In North America, call 1-866-234-6020

Hours of operation:
Monday-Friday 5 am - 9 pm Pacific Standard Time
Saturday-Sunday 6 am - 3 pm Pacific Standard Time

For other IE7 issues, start here: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

International customers can receive support from their local Microsoft
subsidiaries. For more information about how to contact Microsoft for
support issues, visit the International Support Web site:

ANd I run clean versions of IE7;
NO google yahoo, MSN or whatever,

And I have no probs with IE7.

I  am stating that you are giving WRONG info!

The desktop icon for IE7 in XP SP2 or XP SP3 does NOT have a right-click
option for "start IE with no addons!!!

I am NOT giving wrong info and the IE team is not giving wrong info.
However, the IE desktop icon you're seeing may not be the original, default
desktop icon:

=> Control Panel | Display | Desktop | Customize Desktop | Desktop icons: Is
there an IE option available here (yes or no)?

=> Start | Run | Regedit | OK: Does your Registry contain the following keys
and DWORD values (yes or no)?

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu]
"{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000

If you have disabled the IE icon on the Desktop you could say that for your system.

Some people don't have that Accessory, so they could say the only option
to do that is.   Run...  (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)

   iexplore.exe  -nohome  -extoff

Etc.

It is not a mistake.  It is a valid suggestion for many instances.
It may not be a complete description of all possibilities,
may not be the most general possibility and may not include
your cases but it is correct.

Either way it is still possible to have it if you want it, using, if necessary...

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer  Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.
