I'm running Windows XP with SP 2.  I'm building a website that shows videos
in .SWF format.  My Flash player is version 9 (latest).  When I play the
video by clicking on the file in My Computer, it plays perfectly.  When I
click the hyperlink in my website, it plays perfectly in Firefox, but in IE7
the sound is garbled.  Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Is the .swf file being cached in the TIF?
Then you check that the size of the file there
is the same as the size of the file you have locally.
E.g. a transmission error or interference with it
could corrupt the file and thus result in your symptom.

Robert,

Sorry.  I left out a piece of information:  I'm new.  To my embarrassment
I'm not sure what you mean by a TIF, and I guarantee I don't know whether the
.swf file is cached to it or not.  But I'll take a stab at your question
based on what little I do know.

I'm going to guess that TIF means Temporary Internet Files folder.  That
would suggest to me that you're asking if my website is loading the .swf file
into that folder before displaying the video.  Hope I'm right so far.  If I
am, there's another piece of information you need:  The website has not been
published yet.  It simply resides on my computer.  I'm developing it using
Expression Web, which allows me to preview the web pages using either Firefox
or IE7.  I don't fully understand the underpinnings of Expression Web, but I
don't think it sends the .swf file to the Temporary Internet Files folder
before displaying the video.  I certainly don't give it instructions to do
so.  I simply include an HREF to its location in the code, and the program
does the rest.

Since the garbled sound only occurs when I play the video via IE7 (Firefox
plays it perfectly), it doesn't seem likely that putting the file in the
Temporary Internet Files folder has much to do with the problem.  At any
rate, I went to the Temporary Internet Folder to see what was there, but it's
empty.

Could there be another cause?

You haven't mentioned what program you used to create the .swf files, if you
are using Camtasia Studio the following links may be of some help with
regard to the garbled sound in your SWF files when played with Flash Player
9.0.115.0 or higher:
