I just went from ie6 to ie7, now I cannot connect to internet. The window
just sits there and says it's connecting, but does nothing. When I try to
exit, it freezes up. I am operating on win xp. It was working fine on ie6.

Try loading IE7 in its no add-ons mode.

Try disabling your firewall software.  Retest IE7.
