I'm running IE 7 but IE Administration Kit 5 is still installed on my XP Pro
machine.
As the subj states, Kit 5 is a target for Trojan Horse Downloaders...go
figure.
Is there any reason why I should not remove MS IE Admin Kit 5 from my
computer?

Hi,

It is your computer, this is a public newsgroup. Advice given here is from
enthusiasts and volunteers. IEAK 5 is old software that was used to
administer Internet Explorer version 5.

The recommended method for removing unwanted software is through the
Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel.

Regards.

Thanks, Rob.

The question was designed to find out if it could be removed without
screwing up one of Microsoft's myriad programs; something MS likes to do to
require people to load a pleathera of junk. It so happens that this box has
never had IE v.5 installed, ergo the reason for the software question; it
wasn't obvious why it was installed. Also, the trojan horse loader (THL) was
received under the guise of an update to IEAK5 (thanks for the acronym).

As for it being "[my] computer," most of my computers (4 XP Pro + 5 Linux)
catch and dispose of viruses without taking a hit; even this one was caught.
The THL mentioned likes IEAK 5 very much; second hit...typical IE security.
None of my other computers have either the problem or the "old" microsoft
file. Enough said.

Thank you for letting me know that it isn't a needed program.
