I've been having an issue adding pages to favorites. I'm running windows XP
SP2 and IE7.
This issue first occured 2 weeks ago. I had reimaged a system and I got a
call from the user saying they were unable to add to their favorites. I
checked their favorites folder in \documents and settings\user\favorites and
saw the default msn.com favorite and the two folders, but when I launched IE
under that user account the favorites menu was empty.
When I try to add to favorites nothing happens, no error message, no dialog
box prompting me to confirm the add. If I try to organize favorites nothing
appears as well. I checked the security settings on the folders and that
user has full control over everything.
The weird thing is I pushed that same image onto a different box a few days
later and I was able to add to favorites just fine with that same domain
account that was having the problem previously.
I believe the problem is specific to the system, other domain accounts are
able to add/organize favorites on that system, that domain account is able to
add/organize favorites on other systems as well. I don't think the user
could have accidently messed up the internet options because I've locked
those settings.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this or any idea about
what may be causing this?
Thanks

Why did you have to reimage the system?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

My problem arose from trying to copy and paste the HTML's from the Favorites folder (STAR) on my old hard drive that I had saved to an external hard drive. This does not work for IE7 on XP (for me) This is not when the favorites bar started acting up though. It was when I realized my first method did not work so I was just dragging the html's to IE7 then adding the pages after they loaded up in IE7. Everything seemed to be going well and I was happy, but I came to a point where I restarted my PC. I noticed that I had no favorites when I started IE7 and that I could not even redo them as clickong on the add to favorites does absolutely nothing now. I did find that my favorites that I had click and dragged were now in the folder that I was dragging them from on my external hard drive and that others that had been in that folder that i had not yet dragged over were gone.
I am thinking I messed something up so that it looks for that external hard drive to do favorites to or something. I have tried disconnecting the external HD, no change. I tried deleteing IE7 but in the control panel remove programs it does not give me the option to remove it. I did do the spuninst then had IE6 back and it had same issue. Updated back to IE7 still no joy. HAve since gone to using Flock since Netscape has been retired. Personally I like IE7 I do the social messaging stuff that is smathered all over the other browsers but if something that one such as I can accidently do destroys IE7 completely then I guess have no choice but to use other browsers.
I guess I should look at it as being a geniuos since i totally destroyed IE7 and did it so easily.
running XP SP3 IE7.

That's not what changes in this case. It's the Shell Folders registry value.
It will change if your user is allowed to drag the Favorites folder to another
location. Perhaps the user would not have sufficient permissions to use
the "other location" for keeping and maintaining Favorites? Or perhaps
the user doesn't have permission to update that registry value but managed
to move the folder anyway? Etc.

I'm getting the same problem. When I add a Favorite to my IE7 Favorites nothing happens. No error message, nothing grayed out.. it just doesn't work. This was working fine before and I can see favorites in my Favorites folder. I'm running Vista and IE7. I just did a fresh install of IE7 but it still doesn't work. I'm not using any addons and my Virusscanner is McAfee. I've Googled and Searched the MS KB but no luck.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
