LONG delay when saving a shortcut from IE

What is the cause of the long delay in saving an IE shortcut? This
happens only after a few IE windows are open, or when at least one IE
window is open for a length of time. For that reason, I suspect a
problem with some local 'resource' that is getting depleted. This
occurs on systems with lots of ram, so it's not directly related to
main memory allocation.

Closing -ALL- IE windows seems to fix this, so there's some base that
stays alive for all IE windows. (Any way to change this?)

I'd post some system configs, but I've seen this on several systems
now, and it seems to occur independent of hardware. Again, it seems
more related to the length of time that at least one IE window is
open.

Ideas?

Yeah, I know. I had forgotten about the IE group, and realized
afterward that I should have posted there. Hence the duplicate.
